  • Patent number: 6188139
Abstract: A marine power distribution arrangement includes a turbine-driven AC generator which supplies AC power at a frequency of 240 Hz through a switchgear unit to a transformer and a first power converter by which the power is converted to a variable frequency, variable voltage AC output for ship propulsion and to a second power converter by which the AC power is converted to a fixed voltage, fixed AC frequency or DC power to supply the ship service loads. A battery backup power supply may be switched in an emergency. In another embodiment four turbine-driven AC generators and two emergency power supplies are provided to drive two propulsion shafts as well as to supply the ship service loads.

  • Patent number: 6183358
Abstract: An ultra-clean environment for fabrication of semiconductor devices which includes an air transmissive conveyor for conveying semiconductor wafers thereon and a plurality of robotic elements. A clean channel encloses the conveyor. The clean channel includes a filtered air intake extending from one surface of the conveyor and an air exhaust region extending in a direction opposite the air intake. The robotic elements is disposed external to and communicating with the clean channel. Laminar flow of filtered air is provided from the air intake to the air exhaust. The conveyor preferably traverses a serpentine path. The path of the conveyor is substantially bi-directional in that it travels in a first direction in then in the opposite direction immediately adjacent the portion traveling in the first direction. Robotic elements are disposed external to the clean channel, communicate with the clean channel and are at a reduced pressure relative to the clean channel.

  • Patent number: 5263362
Abstract: A pair of semcircular jaws seal against the outer periphery of a pipe adjacent a butt weld joint in the pipe. The jaws have annular pressure rims that apply mechanical pressure against the outer surface of the pipe; and the jaws provide an annular manifold cavity between the pressure rims through which high gas pressure is applied against the joint and adjacent areas of the pipe, all for the purpose of slightly deforming the pipe and opening up any fissure that may exist by reason of an imperfect joint. In a modified form, a cylindrical shroud carries an annulus of balls for supporting against and applying deforming pressure on side portions of the pipe as the shroud is rotated around the pipe.
