Publication number: 20240090958Abstract: A surgical system includes a surgical instrument that is sensitive to backlash that would adversely affect the transmission of controlled torque and position to the surgical instrument. The surgical instrument is coupled to motors in a surgical instrument manipulator assembly via a mechanical interface. The combination of the mechanical interface and surgical instrument manipulator assembly have low backlash, e.g., less than 0.7 degrees. The backlash is controlled in the surgical instrument manipulator assembly. From the drive output disk in the surgical instrument manipulator assembly to the driven disk of the surgical instrument, the mechanical interface has zero backlash for torque levels used in surgical procedures.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2023Publication date: March 21, 2024Applicant: Intuitive Surgical Operations, Inc.Inventors: Thomas G. COOPER, Anthony K. MCGROGAN, Robert E. HOLOP, Todd R. SOLOMON, Eugene F. DUVAL, Kent M. ANDERSON

Publication number: 20240081737Abstract: A mouth guard senses impact forces and determines if the forces exceed an impact threshold. If so, the mouth guard notifies the user of the risk for injury by haptic feedback, vibratory feedback, and/or audible feedback. The mouth guard system may also remotely communicate the status of risk and the potential injury. The mouth guard uses a local memory device to store impact thresholds based on personal biometric information obtained from the user and compares the sensed forces relative to those threshold values. The mouth guard and its electrical components on the printed circuit board are custom manufactured for the user such that the mouth guard provides a comfortable and reliable fit, while ensuring exceptional performance.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2023Publication date: March 14, 2024Inventors: Anthony M. Gonzales, Robert M. Merriman, Susan M. Merriman, Christopher T. Cooper

Patent number: 9571643Abstract: Establishing a telephone call includes enabling display of a visual indicator of a call destination entity and detecting selection by a user of the visual indicator. The availability of the user to receive a first telephone call is determined. Voice communications between the call destination entity and the user are established in response to detection of the selection by the user of the visual indicator and conditioned on the user being determined to be available to receive the first telephone call. Establishing voice communications includes enabling placement of the first telephone call to the user to establish a first PSTN link with the user and enabling a voice communications link to be setup with the call destination entity.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2015Date of Patent: February 14, 2017Assignee: FACEBOOK, INC.Inventor: Robert M.
