    Abstract: The invention relates to methods of treating central nervous system damage. This includes methods of treating ALS using a mutant ICE gene and methods of treating head trauma injuries by ICE inhibition. The invention also relates to transgenic non-human animals comprising a mutant ICE gene and a mutant SOD gene. These transgenic animals exhibit attenuated symptoms of ALS. This invention also relates to methods of using the transgenic animals to screen for compounds to treat ALS.
