  • Patent number: 5690862
Abstract: This invention relates to a solvent system which is non-flammable and which is comprised of a hydrocarbon solvent having a flash point less than about 38.degree. C. and a second solvent containing at least 90 wt % n-propyl bromide, the second solvent being present in an amount sufficient to obtain no flash point for the solvent system when tested in accordance with ASTM D-93 and the second solvent being the sole halogenated solvent and flash point suppressor in the solvent system.

  • Patent number: 5175305
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for preparing and treating a product predominant in N,N'-bis(tetrabromophthalimide) so as to produce a bisimide product which has enhanced suitability for use in thermoplastic formulations as a result of reduction in volatile impurities and particle size.

    Assignee: Ethyl Corporation
Inventors: Joseph W. Roos, Robert M. Moore, Jr.
  • Patent number: 5166360
Abstract: The yellowness index of a flame retardant N,N'-alkylene-bis-(tetrahalophthalimide), such as N,N'-ethylene-bis-(tetrabromophthalimide), is reduced by treating the bis-imide with strong mineral acid.

    Assignee: Ethyl Corporation
Inventors: Michael G. McKenna, Robert M. Moore, Jr.
  • Patent number: 5141652
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for reducing the biological activity in water by feeding a solution of BrCl stabilized by a hydrohalic acid or an aqueous halide salt into the water to be treated in an amount sufficient to effect the reduction of biological activity in the water thus treated.

  • Patent number: 5000879
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for increasing the melting point of partially brominated diphenyl oxide mixtures having an average bromine content of 7.2 to 7.7. The process comprises: forming a slurry comprised of C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkanol and the mixture; maintaining the slurry until the melting point increase which is sought is obtained; and separating the so-treated mixture from the slurry.
