Patent number: 11960683Abstract: A display system for sensing a finger of a user applied to the display system includes a display panel; a sensor for sensing the finger; a sensing light source configured to emit a first light having a first wavelength W1; and a reflective polarizer disposed between the display panel and the sensor. For a substantially normally incident light, an optical transmittance of the reflective polarizer versus wavelength for a first polarization state has a band edge such that for a first wavelength range extending from a smaller wavelength L1 to a greater wavelength L2 and including W1, where 30 nm?L2?L1?50 nm and L1 is greater than and within about 20 nm of a wavelength L3 corresponding to an optical transmittance of about 50% along the band edge, the optical transmittance has an average of greater than about 75%.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2021Date of Patent: April 16, 2024Assignee: 3M INNOVATIVE PROPERTIES COMPANYInventors: Bharat R. Publication number: 20110179644Abstract: To protect the bearings, lubricant and seals of a refrigerant compressor, the compressor includes one or more inductors for mitigating a high frequency common mode current that produces a high frequency shaft voltage. Each inductor is a ring of magnetic material encircling three insulated cables that convey three-phase power from an adjustable frequency drive to the compressor's motor. Without the inductors, the high frequency shaft voltage can become damagingly high due to the length of a cast iron housing that can be particularly long if the housing contains both a motor and several centrifugal impellers. The high frequency shaft voltage is just one component of a composite adverse shaft voltage. Another component, known as an operationally induced shaft voltage, can be reduced by a grounding contact, so instead of using just an inductor or just a contact, both can be used to provide a total solution to the problem.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2011Publication date: July 28, 2011Inventors: Robert M. Swanson, Joel S. Duga, David M. Foye

Patent number: 5299136Abstract: Groups of DCVS (Differential Cascode Voltage Switch) circuits are interconnected by single-track data transfer connections. Each group contains one or more DCVS tree circuits, through which data signals propagate only on dual-track connections. In each group, at least one DCVS tree circuit is configured as an input boundary tree, and at least one tree circuit is configured as an output boundary tree. All data inputs externally applied to a group, are transferred only through input boundary trees of the group, and all data outputs transferred out of a group leave the group only through output boundary trees of the group. If a group has only a single tree, that tree serves as input and output boundary tree of the group. Each input boundary tree of each group has one or more associated primary shift register latch (SRL) circuits through which all external data inputs to that tree are transferred. Such external data inputs are received through the single-track connections mentioned above.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1991Date of Patent: March 29, 1994Assignee: International Business Machines Corp.Inventors: Jacquelin Babakanian, James W. Davis, Mark S. Garvin, Robert M. Swanson, Nandor G. Thoma, David M. Wu

Patent number: 5272397Abstract: Disclosed is a basic DCVS (differential cascode voltage switch) tree construct, which can be used as a uniform basis for constructing DCVS logic circuits, register-latch circuits and circuits which can be conditioned individually to function as either or both DCVS logic and register-latches. In addition to logic and load sections that may be identical to corresponding sections of prior art DCVS trees, this construct contains gating elements for providing unique functions of isolation, precharge support and latch input coupling. The isolation function is used to electrically isolate the logic and load sections from each other, so that each section can be made to operate in a mode which is independent of the other section. The precharge support function allows precharging of circuits in the logic section without involvement of the load section. The latch input coupling function allows signals to be applied to and latched in the load section from a source other than the respective logic section.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1992Date of Patent: December 21, 1993Assignee: International Business Machines Corp.Inventors: Imin P. Chen, James W. Davis, Robert M. Swanson, Nandor G. Thoma, David M. Wu

Patent number: 5058031Abstract: A method of protecting the compressor motor of a refrigeration system using a multiphase AC power source. The method comprises the steps of monitoring each phase of the power supply to the compressor motor; calculating the average phase for the phases of the AC power supply; determining a maximum phase unbalance deviation from the average phase; determining if a first level of phase unbalance protection is active; setting a system protection level as the first level of phase unbalance protection if the first level is active; setting the system protection level as a second higher level of phase unbalance protection if the first level is not active; and initiating a compressor motor shutdown if the system protection level is exceeded by the maximum unbalanced phase deviation.Type: GrantFiled: March 30, 1990Date of Patent: October 15, 1991Assignee: American Standard Inc.Inventors: Robert M. Swanson, Paul C. Rentmeester, David M. Foye

Swanson, Paul C. Pentmeester
