Abstract: An appliance that includes a main unit to which one of a plurality of attachments is attachable. The appliance also include an emitter, an optical sensor, and a control module. The emitter is able to emit optical radiation towards one of multiple attachments when attached to the main unit. The optical sensor is able to receive reflected optical radiation from one of multiple attachments when attached to the main unit. The control module is able to determine which of the attachments is attached to the main unit based on data output by the optical sensor.

Abstract: An apparatus which can data process IC cards and can issue IC cards is provided using a simple structure, which can draw cards one by one. The apparatus can data process IC cards inserted from the exterior of the apparatus and can issue a processed IC card to the exterior of apparatus. A processor with an electrical connection data processes an IC card when it is positioned by positioning structure, which connects the inserted IC card to the processor connection. The apparatus includes a roller and an idler, the idler being mounted on an idler shaft rotatable about a rotation axis of the roller to transfer the IC card to a collection position.
