  • Publication number: 20080057254
Abstract: Ion-enhanced physical vapor deposition is utilized to deposit repair material on Ti alloy turbine parts. Pulse modulation may be used to control a bias voltage and an ionization.
    Type: Application
    Filed: October 31, 2007
    Publication date: March 6, 2008
    Applicant: UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION
Inventors: Robert Memmen, Igor Belousov, Anatoly Kuzmichev
  • Publication number: 20080006384
Abstract: An investment casting pattern component has a spine and a number of tines extending from the spine.
    Type: Application
    Filed: January 17, 2006
    Publication date: January 10, 2008
    Inventor: Robert Memmen
  • Publication number: 20070044936
Abstract: An investment casting pattern is formed by installing a first core to a first element of a molding die to leave a first portion of the first core protruding from the first element. After the installing, the first element is assembled with a feed core and a second element of the molding die so that the first portion contacts the feed core. A material is molded at least partially over the first core and the feed core. The first portion has one or more surface area enhancements.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 1, 2005
    Publication date: March 1, 2007
    Inventor: Robert Memmen
  • Publication number: 20070044935
Abstract: A method for casting a cooled component includes molding a sacrificial pattern. A plurality of holes are formed through the pattern. A shell is formed over the pattern including filling the holes. The pattern is destructively removed from the shell. A metallic material is cast in the shell. The shell is destructively removed.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 30, 2005
    Publication date: March 1, 2007
    Inventor: Robert Memmen
  • Publication number: 20060275108
Abstract: Disclosed are assemblies and articles for restricting leakage of a pressurized fluid from a cavity flanked by a vane support and a bladed rotor assembly. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, the vane support defines a circumferential channel, and a interrupted rim region of the bladed rotor assembly defines a segmented ring. The segmented ring protrudes outward from the bladed rotor assembly, spans across the cavity and into the channel to define a seal.
    Type: Application
    Filed: June 7, 2005
    Publication date: December 7, 2006
    Inventors: Robert Memmen, Gary Bash
  • Publication number: 20060105195
Abstract: A method for depositing a first material on a substrate includes providing the substrate in a deposition chamber. A molten body is formed between the substrate and a source of the first material by melting one or more second materials. A flow of the first material is passed through the molten body and from the molten body to the substrate as a vapor flow. An essentially non-expending portion of the molten body comprises an alloy having a melting temperature below a melting temperature of the first material.
    Type: Application

  • Publication number: 20050205415
Abstract: Ion-enhanced physical vapor deposition is augmented by sputtering to deposit multi-component materials. The process may be used to deposit coatings and repair material on Ti alloy turbine engine parts. The physical vapor deposition may be ion-enhanced electron beam physical vapor deposition.
    Type: Application
    Filed: March 19, 2004
    Publication date: September 22, 2005
