Abstract: A multi-layered pipe includes at least an outer and an inner layer of thermoplastic material and a coupling includes a thermoplastic material. A method for joining the pipe to the coupling includes providing a coupling including a recess for receiving an end of a multi-layered pipe, the recess being configured, in use, to permit the coupling to contact the inner and outermost layers of a multi-layered pipe received in the recess. An end of the multi-layered pipe is fit into the recess of the coupling. Heat is introduced to both the coupling sufficient to cause local melting at the interface between the coupling and either the inner layer alone or both the inner and outer layers of the multi-layered pipe.

Abstract: The present invention learns phrase translation relationships by receiving a parallel aligned corpus with phrases to be learned identified in a source language. Candidate phrases in a target language are generated and an inside score is calculated based on word association scores for words inside the source language phrase and candidate phrase. An outside score is calculated based on word association scores for words outside the source language phrase and candidate phrase. The inside and outside scores are combined to obtain a joint score.

Abstract: A tool system with a battery pack and a device that is configured to be selectively coupled to the battery pack. The battery pack has first, second and third pack terminals. The device has a battery mount with a body that defines a well and first and second device terminals. The body defines a well into which the battery pack is removably received. The first and second device terminals extend outwardly from a proximal portion of the battery mount and engage the first and second pack terminals when the battery pack is fully inserted into the well. At least one of the first and second pack terminals and the first and second device terminals is a male terminal that is received into a corresponding one of the first and second pack terminals and the first and second device terminals. A longitudinal axis of each of the first, second and third pack terminals is arranged parallel to a longitudinal axis of the battery pack.

Abstract: A graphics processor includes an embedded frame buffer for storing frame data prior to sending the frame data to an external location, such as main memory. A copy pipeline is provided which converts the data from one format to another format prior to writing the data to the external location. The conversion may be from one RGB color format to another RGB color format, from one YUV format to another YUV format, from an RGB color format to a YUV color format, or from a YUV color format to an RGB color format. MPEG image data initially stored in main memory in a YUV format as a texture is transferred to the embedded frame buffer prior to initiating a copy-out process via the copy pipeline from the embedded frame buffer to an external frame buffer in main memory. During the copy-out process, pixels are converted from YUV format to an RGB format.

Abstract: An automated and computerized system for characterizing kinetic activities is disclosed. The system includes an optical unit with a controller chip. The controller chip has multiple reaction cells for simultaneously reacting samples of the catalyst under a range of reaction conditions and for optically monitoring the kinetic activity within each of the reaction cells; The system also preferably includes a temperature controller in thermal contact with the controller chip and an actuation device coupled to the controller chip for injecting and mixing samples of the catalyst with reagents into each of the reaction cells to form a product.

Abstract: A printing system includes first and second marking engines which are operatively connected to each other for printing images onto print media. A print media transport system collects printed media from the marking engines. The print media transport system includes a common paper path which receives printed media from the first and second marking engines. A sensor element is associated with the common paper path for measuring an image quality parameter of printed media traveling thereon and generating a control signal therefrom. An image quality controller is in communication with the sensor element for adjusting image quality parameters in at least one of the first marking engine and second marking engine based on the control signal to reduce a variation in an image quality characteristic of printed images produced by the first and second marking engines.

Abstract: A missile includes a radome-seeker airframe assembly that has a single-piece composite material forebody. The forebody is made of a high-temperature composite material that can withstand heat with little or no ablation. The forebody has a front part with an ogive shape and an aft part that has a cylindrical shape. The front part acts as a radome for a seeker located within the forebody. Patch antennas are attached to an inside surface of the cylindrical aft part. The aft part acts as a radome for the patch antennas, allowing signals to be sent and received by the patch antennas without a need for cutouts. A single seal may be used to seal the guidance system and seeker within the forebody, allowing the equipment to be hermetically sealed within the forebody.

A source string is translated with a machine translator to generate a target string. Features indicative of translation operations performed are extracted from the machine translator. A relationship between a subset of the extracted features and the trusted entity-assigned translation score is identified.

Abstract: A graphics system including a custom graphics and audio processor produces exciting 2D and 3D graphics and surround sound. The system includes a graphics and audio processor including a 3D graphics pipeline and an audio digital signal processor. Techniques for efficiently buffering graphics data between a producer and a consumer within a low-cost graphics systems such as a 3D home video game overcome the problem that a small-sized FIFO buffer in the graphics hardware may not adequately load balance a producer and consumer—causing the producer to stall when the consumer renders bit primitives. One aspect of the invention solves this invention by allocating part of main memory to provide a variable number of variable sized graphics commands buffers. Applications can specify the number of buffers and the size of each. All writes to the graphics FIFO can be routed a buffer in main memory. The producer and consumer independently maintain their own read and write pointers, decoupling the producer from the consumer.

Abstract: A compound miter saw includes a table on which a workpiece is placed, a miter saw unit supporting a saw blade, and a housing pivotally supporting the miter saw unit related to the table in such a manner that the miter saw unit is at least laterally pivotable. Further, the miter saw includes a bevel mechanism for selectively determining the lateral position of the miter saw unit at any of a plurality of pivoted positions, including a vertical position where the saw blade is positioned substantially vertically relative to the table, and leftward and rightward pivoted positions where the blade is inclined laterally leftwardly and laterally rightwardly from the vertical position. The bevel mechanism includes a movable rod and three fixed stop members, the rod being operable to move between a first rod position abutting one of the fixed stop members and a second rod position not abutting the one of the fixed stop members so as to permit the lateral pivotal movement of the miter saw unit.
