Publication number: 20240233586Abstract: Temporary biodegradable outdoor display objects including marker flags, yard signs, boundary tapes, and grass depth gauges. The objects are all formed from a bioplastic material comprising a biodegradable aliphatic polyester produced from diacids selected from the group consisting of adipic acid and succinic acid, and combinations thereof and diol monomers selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol, propanediol, butanediol, and hexanediol, and an effective amount of melt strength enhancer.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 5, 2024Publication date: July 11, 2024Inventors: Robert Neal Alfred Hawkinson, Kelvin T. Okamoto

Publication number: 20240099201Abstract: A biodegradable plant container has side tear strips extending from its top opening to its bottom. The tear strips are hinged near the bottom and fan out to establish a diameter for a planting hole. The inside surface of the tear strips as root slicers that tease the roots of a root ball in the plant container when the tear strips are pulled outward and fanned out. The fanned out tear strips establish the diameter for the planting hole. The plant container also has a depth index to establish the proper planting depth. Once the tear strips have been opened and fanned out, the biodegradable plant container is planted directly in the soil where it will degrade.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2023Publication date: March 28, 2024Inventors: Robert Neal Alfred Hawkinson, Kelvin T. Okamoto

Patent number: 10837155Abstract: An erosion control system of interconnected bags with water permeable fill material. The top panel of each bag is a geotextile mesh material so that water can pass into the bag and into the water permeable fill material. The bottom panel of each bag is a geotextile mesh that is non-degradable and slightly water permeable. The bags are connected in the end to form a trough through the permeable fill material.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2019Date of Patent: November 17, 2020Inventor: Robert Neal Alfred Hawkinson

Patent number: 9926684Abstract: Roof runoff water control systems for a building with gutters and a downspout and buildings without gutters. Both systems employ a swale in the ground that is lined with rock filled bags that are opened and laid overlapped end-to-end. For the downspout, a closed bag filled with rock is placed under the downspout with open bags filled with rock laid overlapped end-to-end in the swale and overlapped downstream from the closed bag. For a building without gutters and having a drip line in the ground, open bags filled with rock are laid overlapped end-to-end in the swale. The swale and the open bags are aligned with the drip line.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2016Date of Patent: March 27, 2018Assignee: R & J East, Inc.Inventors: Robert Neal Alfred Hawkinson, James Earl Hawkinson

Patent number: 9637886Abstract: A bag constructed of a weed suppression material for packaging a ground cover material. When the bag is in a closed configuration, the bag serves as a container for shipping, handling, and storage of the ground cover material. When the bag is opened and unfolded, and the ground cover material within the bag is spread over the opened and unfolded bag, the bag serves as a layer of weed suppression material on top of underlying soil and beneath the ground cover. In addition, the bag may be used for planting individual plants in a planting bed, for establishing a buffer zone around the foundation of a building, or for controlling erosion around a downspout of a building.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2014Date of Patent: May 2, 2017Assignee: R & J East, Inc.Inventors: Robert Neal Alfred Hawkinson, James Earl Hawkinson
