  • Patent number: 8682250
Abstract: A noise cancellation system for an audio system such as a mobile phone handset, or a wireless phone headset has a first input for receiving a first audio signal from one or more microphone positioned to receive ambient noise, and a second input for receiving a second audio signal from a microphone positioned to detect the user's speech, as well as a third input for receiving a third audio signal for example representing the speech of a person to whom the user is talking. A first noise cancellation block receives the first audio signal and generates a first noise cancellation signal, and this is combined with the third audio signal to form a first audio output signal. A second noise cancellation block receives at least a part of the first audio signal and said second audio signal and applying noise cancellation to generate a second audio output signal.

  • Patent number: 8681693
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for the operation of a network of cognitive radios in a dynamic network topology. The systems and methods make use cross-layer communications to input parameters required by network services into a reasoning engine, which in turns processes the parameter the parameter information and reports linguistic results to the network services. The cross-layer communications are leveraged to shift network service functionality to the MAC or PHY Layers. Route discovery functionality is shifted from routing services down to the MAC or PHY Layers. The route discovery functionality is implemented by a process to elect a relay node based on the number of available channels that each of the source node neighbors has available to communicate with other neighbors.

  • Patent number: 8682770
Abstract: Commercial size of spending wallet (“CSoSW”) is the total business spend of a business including cash but excluding bartered items. Commercial share of wallet (“CSoW”) is the portion of the spending wallet that is captured by a particular financial company. A modeling approach utilizes various data sources to provide outputs that describe a company's spend capacity. Private equity firms and other investors of small businesses can use the CSoW/CSoSW modeling approach to more accurately evaluate small and privately held companies, both during investment and for evaluating prospective investments. Over-the-counter securities trading systems can also use this modeling approach to provide more accurate information and/or rankings of listed companies to their customers.

  • Patent number: 8679761
Abstract: A method for detecting inflammation in the urinary tract or urethra of a patient, especially urethritis, comprises a) contacting leucocytes obtained from a urine sample provided by the patient with a luminescence reagent which emits light on reaction with an oxidant; b) adding an activator to the mixture of leucocytes and luminescence reagent; c) continuously monitoring and/or measuring light emitted by the luminescence reagent over a predetermined time period commencing before and ending after the addition of the activator. The light emission is indicative of the presence or absence of inflammation in the urinary tract or urethra of the patient. The urine sample is preferably a sample of first pass urine. The method makes possible a diagnosis especially of urethritis and, in particular, urethral infections selected from Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which can be carried out quickly without invasive procedures.

  • Patent number: 8681990
Abstract: A system, method apparatus, and computer readable medium for managing renewal of a dynamic set of data items. Each data item has an associated renewal deadline, in a data item management system. A renewal schedule allocates to each data item a renewal interval for renewal of the data item. On addition of a new data item, if a potential renewal interval having a duration required for renewal of the data item, and having an ending at the renewal deadline for that item does not overlap a time period in the schedule during which the system is busy, the renewal schedule is automatically updated by allocating the potential renewal interval to the new data item. If the potential renewal interval does overlap a busy period, the renewal schedule is automatically updated by selecting an earlier renewal interval for at least one data item in the set.
