Abstract: A pulling head for a Czochralski type crystal growing furnance includes a ball linked chain for suspending the growing crystal ingot, a sprocket for engaging such chain to pull the ingot from a melt, motor means for driving the sprocket and a chain storage means to receive untensioned chain discharged from the sprocket.

Abstract: Steel ribbons and wires having quenched martensite or bainite microstructure are disclosed having an organic adhesive coating which is degraded at the steel-adhesive interface. The products are useful as steel tire reinforcements.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for making an adhesive-coated high strength steel reinforcing member comprising the steps of: providing a steel member; austenitizing the steel member; passing the steel member through an adhesive coating bath wherein a uniform, continuous adhesive coating is applied at a rate sufficient to form a quenched structure of martensite, bainite or mixtures thereof; and, heating the coated steel member so as to effect drying and curing of the adhesive coating, and tempering of the steel member. The product obtained by this method is also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of continuously processing metal cord is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of twisting a plurality of filaments together to form a cord, collecting the cord on a spool in such a manner that transfer segments are provided; straightening the transfer segments; welding the transfer segment of a first spool to the transfer segment of a second spool; passing the cord continuously through a mechanical straightener and reducing the force exerted by the straightener on that section of the cord containing the welded portion.
