The coordinates of a desired profile are transmitted to the aircraft which then is directed to fly along the curved path and into the localizer center line to touchdown.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus for providing a helicopter with a decelerated approach owards a landing site. An MLS system provides the aircraft with azimuth, elevation, range and range rate information. The aircraft flies towards the approach path and once it is acquired, the aircraft is decelerated until a predetermined range rate is achieved, typically 40 knots, at which point the aircraft's heading is frozen and further corrections to the aircraft's lateral position are made by exclusive use of lateral roll commands.
