Patent number: 4911635Abstract: In an apparatus of making a hollow plastic article wherein a label is positioned in each of a plurality of spaced partible molds in a predetermined array, a preform is positioned in each set of partible molds and the molds are closed and the preform is blown outwardly to the confines of the mold to apply the label to the resultant hollow plastic article, the apparatus which comprises providing labels on a roll of labels, successively engaging the free end of the web of the roll of labels by a first endless vacuum conveyor, tensioning the portion of the web between a point upstream and the free end by the first endless vacuum conveyor, successively cutting a label on the free end from the remaining tensioned portion, transferring each label successively by moving the first endless conveyor adjacent a second endless vacuum conveyor which is transverse to the first conveyor, indexing the second endless conveyor to provide an array of labels on the second endless conveyor which corresponds in spacing to the spaciType: GrantFiled: April 3, 1989Date of Patent: March 27, 1990Assignee: Owens-Illinois Plastic Products Inc.Inventors: Ronald S. Kaminski, Robert P. Snyder, Michael J. Crowley

Patent number: 4680000Abstract: Apparatus for applying labels in the molds of a plastic blow molding machine of the type wherein a plurality of sets of molds are mounted on a wheel rotatable about a horizontal axis and the molds are moved toward and away from one another to enclose a parison and the parison is then blown to the confines of the cavity between the mold sections which comprises removing labels successively from one or more magazines, depositing the labels on an endless conveyor which transports the labels to a position adjacent an open mold and laterally transferring the labels from the conveyor to a position within the molds such that when a mold closes about a plastic parison and the parison is blown, the labels become adhered to the blown plastic bottle.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1985Date of Patent: July 14, 1987Assignee: Owens-Illinois, Inc.Inventors: Casimir W. Nowicki, Thomas A. Lucius, Ronald S. Kaminski, Robert P. Snyder

Patent number: 4065886Abstract: A portable apparatus for reducing the dimensions of a workpiece by abrading means. The apparatus comprises in combination: a portable electric drill motor having a tool shaft-receiving chuck; a workpiece abrading means operatively connected with a shaft adapted to be engaged by the chuck; a guide member supporting the drill motor; a base member adapted to receive and support (1) the guide member adjacent one end, and (2) a housing generally surrounding the abrading means adjacent the other end; the base member having retentive parallel positioning rails extending longitudinally along each lateral edge of a face of the base member; the guide member being slidable longitudinally of the base member whereby the drill motor is adjustably advanceable toward the end of the base member to allow the tool to be aligned with the housing or guard.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1976Date of Patent: January 3, 1978Assignee: William James HarwoodInventors: William James Harwood, Robert P. Patent number: 4061165Abstract: A portable apparatus for reducing the dimensions of a workpiece using rotatable work means. The apparatus comprises in combination: a portable electric drill motor having a shaft-receiving chuck; a work means rotatable about its longitudinal axis and supported by the chuck and a journalled support member; a guide member supporting the drill motor; a base member adapted to receive and support (1) the guide member adjacent one end, (2) the journalled support member adjacent the other end, and (3) a working element support between the guide member and the journalled support member; the base member having retentive parallel positioning rails extending longitudinally along each lateral edge of a face of the base member; the guide member being slidable longitudinally of the base member whereby the drill motor is adjustably positionabletoward the journalled support member to allow the working means to be rotatably supported.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1976Date of Patent: December 6, 1977Assignee: William James HarwoodInventors: William James Harwood, Robert P. Patent number: 4027538Abstract: A Kemmerer style water sampler has a tubular body open at both ends and through which extends a connecting rod. The lower end of the connecting rod is fixed to a closure for the lower end of the body. The upper end of the connecting rod is releasably latched to an upper closure and carries a latch member which is engageable by and disengageable from a pair of clasp members mounted on the upper closure for movements in directions into and out of latching position. Each clasp member is provided with an upstanding motion transmitting member having inclined, confronting surfaces spaced apart to provide a chamber. Reciprocably accommodated in the chamber is an operating member that is tapered complementally to the inclination of the surfaces of the motion transmitting members so that movement of the operating member axially in one direction effects movement of the clasp members out of latching engagement with the latch member, thereby enabling the upper and lower closures to seal the opposite ends of the body.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1976Date of Patent: June 7, 1977Assignee: Trippensee CorporationInventors: Robert P. Snyder, Edmund P. Deja
