  • Patent number: 5756279
Abstract: A method is provided for detecting an analyte in a liquid sample, the method using light energy propagational properties of an analyte-responsive polymer. The analyte-responsive polymer is interfaced with a means to detect changes in the light propagation of the analyte-responsive polymer and the changes are correlated to the amount of analyte in the liquid sample.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 9, 1997
Date of Patent: May 26, 1998
Assignee: E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Richard Calvin Ebersole, Robert Paul Foss, Michael David Ward
  • Patent number: 5695925
Abstract: A composition is provided which is a transducing polymer having from 1 to 20 crosslinks per polymer molecule and selected from the group consisting of amphoteric co- or ter-polymers of pI between 6.2 to 8.0 of acrylic acid, alkyl methacrylate, and N,N-dimethly-aminoethyl methacrylate, the amphoteric co- or ter-polymer immobilized on a surface. Also provided is a method for the preparation of an analyte-responsive polymer immobilized on a surface in which the steps are a. mixing a solution of a crosslinker and the claimed transducing polymer, b. applying the solution of step a to a surface, and c. then curing the polymer to a ratio of from 1 to 20 crosslinks per transducing polymer molecule. Acoustic and optical methods for detecting analtyes are also provided which use an analyte-responsive polymer.

  • Patent number: 4108839
Abstract: Photosensitive polyaldehydes are provided which have the formula: ##STR1## WHEREIN R is a photosensitive end group selected from ##STR2## R.sup.1 is H or n-alkyl of 1-5 carbon atoms, preferably H, R.sup.2 is (a) n-alkanoyl of 1-4 carbon atoms or (b) n-alkanoyl of 1-4 carbon atoms or ##STR3## when R.sup.1 is H, and n is a positive integer of about 10-4000. The polyaldehydes are prepared by the anionic polymerization of the appropriate aldehyde with an initiating amount of an alkali metal or tetraalkylammonium alkoxide of RO in the above formula. The polyaldehydes are useful in articles and methods of relief imaging and in lithographic plates.

  • Patent number: 4034021
Abstract: Disclosed herein are new, specifically modified, copolymers of pivalolactone with isoprene and/or butadiene. Also disclosed is a process for making copolymers comprising (1) polymerizing the diene with a lithium initiator and, optionally, metallating the resulting lithiopolydiene with an alkyllithium, (2) carboxylating the resulting polylithiopolydiene by reaction with carbon dioxide, (3) reacting the polymeric lithium carboxylate with tetraalkylammonium hydroxide or halide and (4) reacting the tetraalkylammonium salt with pivalolactone.
