Patent number: 8463896Abstract: Methods, media and systems are provided for generating a dynamic web portal in a wireless network, and the portal is based on personal usage. An initialized portal contains no web content. Systems include one or more network elements configured to monitor requests for resource components, to generate web portals, and to dynamically update the portals based on the requests for resource components. Data structures embodied on a computer-readable media are included for storing numerical data regarding the requests and for storing a plurality of portals. The dynamic web portal is updated to contain component resources from visited web pages, each having a respective universal resource locator (URL) or portion of code with which it is associated. Requests for resources are monitored and added to a web portal when a specified threshold is surpassed so that an updated web portal can be presented.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2008Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Jeremy R. Breau, Robert Pippert, Douglas R. Green, Lyle W. Paczkowski, Samuel M. Woleben

Patent number: 8184730Abstract: A method for selecting a frequency band, from among a plurality of frequency bands controllable by a radio network controller (RNC), to carry a data communication. The method may include obtaining frequency band usage measurements for a plurality of frequency bands, and using the frequency band usage measurements to select a particular frequency band of the plurality of frequency bands to carry the data communication. Frequency band usage measurements may be based on how many idle slots (and/or data channels) are carried through each of the plurality of frequency bands during a measurement time period. A comparison of the frequency band usage measurements can be used to determine which frequency band sent the greatest number of idle slots (or the fewest number of data channels). The method provides for selecting a frequency band best suited (e.g., has the most available capacity for carrying a data communication) for carrying the data communication.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2010Date of Patent: May 22, 2012Assignee: Spring Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Ryan S. Talley, Kristin Hayne, Tom Trueman, Jerry Wade, Robert Pippert

Patent number: 7536204Abstract: A communication system provides communication services to a plurality of communication devices. The communication system includes a transmitting antenna, a transmitter, a first receiving antenna, a second receiving antenna, a second receiver, and a communication interface. The transmitter transmits first wireless signals via the transmitting antenna. The first receiving antenna has a first coverage area of less than forty five degrees. The first receiver receives second wireless signals via the first receiving antenna. The second receiving antenna has a second coverage area of less than forty five degrees, and the second coverage area of the second receiving antenna is within the first coverage area. The second receiver receives third wireless signals via the second receiving antenna. The communication interface provides the communication services between the communication network and the user communication devices.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2002Date of Patent: May 19, 2009Assignee: Sprint Communications Company LPInventors: Walter F. Patent number: 7190969Abstract: A system and method for managing multiple mobile stations provisioned for use by a single user with a common mobile identification number (MIN). In an advanced intelligent network, a call control system may receive requests to set one of the multiple mobile stations to an active state. The call control system may also receive requests to set one or more of the multiple mobile stations to an inactive state. The call control system stores the active or inactive indication in a subscriber profile database. When a request is made to register one of the multiple mobile stations for service, the call control system determines if the mobile station is active or inactive. If the mobile station is inactive, it is not permitted to register. If the mobile station is active, it is permitted to register.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2003Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Dae-Sik Oh, Leo Anderson, Robert Pippert

Patent number: 7123940Abstract: A wireless communication system includes a transmitting antenna, a transmitter, a directional receiving antenna, a receiver, and a communication interface. The transmitter transmits first wireless signals via a transmitting antenna. A directional receiving antenna has an angle of less than forty five degrees and the directional receiving antenna is directed toward an angular area of less than forty five degrees. A receiver receives second wireless signals via the directional receiving antenna. A communication interface is connected to the receiver, the transmitter, and a communication network. The communication interface provides the communication services between a communication network and the user communication devices.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2002Date of Patent: October 17, 2006Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Walter F.
