Patent number: 10458145Abstract: A frame joint connects a plurality of elongate frame members adapted to support a flexible shelter skin. The frame joint includes a first housing having an interior and frame connectors. Each frame connector is adapted to releasably connect an elongate frame member to the first housing. The frame joint includes an electrical source mounted in the interior of the first housing. A light emitting element mounted on the first housing and connected to the electrical source emits light to illuminate an interior of the shelter. The light emitting element is positioned on the first housing to direct light toward the interior of the shelter when the joint is connected to the elongate frame members and the frame members are supporting the flexible shelter skin. The frame joint includes a switch operatively connected to the electrical source and the light emitting element for selectively energizing the light emitting element.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2017Date of Patent: October 29, 2019Assignee: The Associates Group, LLCInventors: Robert R. Publication number: 20020074834Abstract: A collapsible chair (10), having a frame assembly (12) including a number of angled frame members (24). The upper ends of the angled frame members (24) are pivotally attached to upper connectors (64), and the lower ends are pivotally attached to feet (20). The frame assembly (12) as a whole is configured to expand outwardly from a central area (58). The frame assembly (12) further includes back support uprights (34) and rear corner upright members (32). Each of the upright members (32) has an upper end which is pivotally connected to one of said back support uprights (34) at a flexible joint (48). The chair (10) also includes a support surface (16), having a back portion (38) which is held in position by the back support uprights (34). The flexible joint (48) includes a resilient support assembly (30) which biases the back portion (38) to an upright position.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 4, 2001Publication date: June 20, 2002Inventors: Rusty Summar, Robert R. Patent number: 6398297Abstract: A collapsible rocking chair (1), which collapses to a compact bundle, including a chair part (2) having a number of support frame members (F1-10) which are pivotally connected to connecting members (6), and a rocking part (4) including a pair of rocker members (38) and shoe members (26) which are fixed to the rocker members (38). The shoe members (26) are detachably connected to the connecting members (6) to form locking assemblies (50). The shoe member (26) include a housing (72), a receptacle (36) which receives the connecting member (6), and a retaining element (64) including at least one rotary element (66) which is rotatably mounted to the shoe member housing (72). The rotary element (66) rotates to engage a retaining slot (60) of the connecting member (6), thereby locking it in place. A second embodiment includes an alternate locking assembly (86). The shoe members (26) each include a housing (72), and a retaining element (64) including a retaining tab (98) and flanges (94), which surround a slot (96).Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2001Date of Patent: June 4, 2002Inventor: Robert R. Patent number: 6175976Abstract: A sleeping bag having a compact foot space configuration for user warmth in cold ambient temperatures and an expanded foot space configuration for user comfort in mild to warm ambient temperatures. The sleeping bag includes an elongate shell defining a volume sized and shaped to receive a user therein. The shell has an outer surface, a head end portion, a foot end portion and left and right lateral sides. An opening extends generally along at least one of the lateral sides generally in the foot end portion. A pocket made of limp material and associated with the shell is generally in the opening. In the expanded configuration, the pocket and shell define a first foot space volume of the sleeping bag extending through the opening in the shell to a location spaced from the outer surface of the shell.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1999Date of Patent: January 23, 2001Assignee: American Recreation Products, Inc.Inventor: Robert R. Patent number: 5632429Abstract: A backpack having a resilient member associated with one of the panels of material forming the backpack. The resilient member is held in an elastically deformed configuration on the one panel so that it stiffens that panel and tends to hold the backpack open. Shoulder straps of the backpack are constructed with ventilation channels on their undersides of the straps and portion of the body underlying the straps. The underside of each strap includes frictionalizing material for engagement with the top of the shoulder of the person wearing the backpack. Each strap also includes a load distributing region generally located along the length of the strap for engagement with the top of the shoulder of the person wearing the backpack. At least one strap includes a pocket having an opening extending generally longitudinally and transversely across the strap.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1995Date of Patent: May 27, 1997Assignee: American Recreation Products, Inc.Inventor: Robert R. Patent number: 5421355Abstract: A tent assembly capable of assuming multiple configurations includes a shell having side walls made of flexible material in which at least a portion of the flexible material is water vapor permeable, a fly of flexible water impermeable material and a frame to support the shell in a first erect configuration in which the shell substantially encloses a space sized to accommodate one or more occupants and the shell is not covered by the fly. The frame is further capable of supporting the shell and fly in a second erect configuration in which the shell encloses a space sized to accommodate one or more occupants and the fly canopies the shell to prevent substantial moisture from falling on the shell. Moreover, the frame is capable of supporting the fly in a third erect configuration in which the fly is suspended over and shelters a space sized to accommodate one or more occupants.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1993Date of Patent: June 6, 1995Assignee: American Recreation Products, Inc.Inventor: Robert R.
