    Abstract: A barrier operator feature enhancement device is designed to provide one or more features found in modern barrier operator devices and to incorporate those features into a previously installed barrier operator system. To facilitate ease of use, the barrier operator feature enhancement device can communicate with a large variety of barrier operators. Such communication may be wireless or wired, depending on the communication protocol implemented by a particular previously installed barrier operator. To facilitate the ease of installation, the device is designed to configure itself to operate with the communication protocol of the previously installed barrier operator. Once configured to be able to communicate with the previously installed barrier operator, the feature enhancement device works with the barrier operator to provide one or more additional features to enhance the capabilities of the previously installed barrier operator.

The aerogel also has a “sticky” or “tacky” nature which can be used to attract any available dust, fines and/or particulate matter and also restrict flowability of aerogel granules, for example, out of a breached container and thereby minimize loss of the aerogel product through any breached opening.

    Abstract: A movable barrier operator having a motor controller (10) and motor (11) that control selective movement of a movable barrier (12) also has an obstacle detector (14) that utilizes an automatically determined excess force threshold value to permit reliable detection of an obstacle under a wide variety of operational circumstances, including changing physical circumstances, aging components, temperature variations, and motor runtime. In a preferred embodiment, a characteristic force value for the system is frequently updated as a function of actual measured force requirements (and further compensated, pursuant to various embodiments, with respect to other conditions such as temperature and motor runtime). This characteristic force value is then utilized to determine the excess force threshold value.

    Abstract: A simple, relatively low cost system for sealing an ordinary roller shade with respect to the window frame sides, top and bottom is provided. The roller shade seal system essentially comprises a pair of edge seal assemblies in the form of elongate mounting strip members adapted to be permanently mounted to opposite vertical faces of the window frame trim, and a pair of sealing strip members in the form of elongate, generally U-shaped channels adapted to sealably engage the latter edges of the shade, releasably mounted to an associated mounting strip. The window shade sealing system is completed by a shade bottom edge seal comprising a rigid bottom strip reinforcing member, a sill sealing strip and a shade top sealing member.

    Abstract: This disclosure generally relates to a technique and apparatus for solar heating which may be adapted for heating residential, commercial or industrial buildings, and in which the functions of solar energy collection, storage and heat-exchange are combined in the same passive structure generally consisting of a plurality of cylindrical tubes preferably fabricated of glass-fiber reinforced polyester resin which are filled with a stationary heat absorbing medium, such as water, with their surfaces preferably coated with a high absorbtance material on to which solar rays are directed through a solar "transmittor" or window, and which surfaces serve as heat-exchange elements from which heat may be extracted in a variety of ways, including passage of air and thermal siphoning, and with the tubes enclosed within an appropriate insulated chamber. Cooperative action with domestic or similar hot water systems may also be achieved.
