Abstract: A tool for setting a gemstone on a jewel's head has a pair of jaws which are pivotally connected to one another. The tip of each jaw comprises a substantially longitudinal ridge protruding inward along the center of the tip, and a substantially longitudinal groove or channel aligned with the main axis of the jaw. Due to the identical configuration of both jaws, when the jaws are in closed position, the corresponding ridges and grooves define a partially enclosed space substantially conforming to the shape of a conventional solitaire head with a post, thereby providing a clamping geometry that allows a firm grip on the solitaire head.
