  • Publication number: 20080276852
Abstract: This invention gives the directions for the design and building of a vehicle which will be supported in water by the installation of a Floatation Material. The design is so that the vehicle, occupants, and cargo will be supported so that the vehicle will come to rest in the upright position and with the water level below the upper torso of the occupants. There are several demonstrations presented on a regular basis which show how to escape from a vehicle that has suddenly become immersed in water: a lake, river, etc. Escaping is portrayed as a fairly simple procedure when performed by someone who is coached through the process, and by an individual who knows the vehicle is supported by a crane. The design presented in this invention provides a vehicle that will float while requiring no effort from the occupants, nor does it depend on the performance of some mechanism, i.e. switches, relays, or some mechanically activated procedure that requires intervention by the occupant.

  • Patent number: 7399800
Abstract: Temperature switchable pressure sensitive adhesives comprising an elastomer and a crystallizable abietic acid derivative as tackifier are described. These pressure sensitive adhesives exhibit a sharp reduction in peel strength when the temperature is raised above the switching temperature. The adhesive properties of these adhesives may be readily tuned by adjusting the ratio of the elastomer and the crystallizable tackifier, and by altering the crystallizabe group on the tackifier. The temperature switchable pressure sensitive adhesives have use in medical, consumer, and industrial applications.

  • Patent number: 7308604
Abstract: A media area network includes a storage system having at least one storage device for storing digitized information. A host bus adapter provides a link between the storage system and a host system that provides overall control of the media area network. Within the host bus adapter, a lower-level port driver monitors communications between the storage system and the host bus adapter. In the event of a communications failure, the lower-level port driver initiates switching from a failed port to an alternative port, thereby achieving fail-over recovery. Allocating the responsibility for fail-over recovery to the lower-level port driver assures timely handling of port failures, thereby reducing potential latency delays.

  • Patent number: 7149238
Abstract: A discrete multitone stacked-carrier spread spectrum communication method is based on frequency domain spreading including multiplication of a baseband signal by a set of superimposed, or stacked, complex sinusoid carrier waves. In a preferred embodiment, the spreading involves energizing the bins of a large Fast Fourier transform (FFT). This provides a considerable savings in computational complexity for moderate output FFT sizes. Point-to-multipoint and multipoint-to-multipoint (nodeless) network topologies are possible. A code-nulling method is included for interference cancellation and enhanced signal separation by exploiting the spectral diversity of the various sources. The basic method may be extended to include multielement antenna array nulling methods for interference cancellation and enhanced signal separation using spatial separation. Such methods permit directive and retrodirective transmission systems that adapt or can be adapted to the radio environment.

  • Patent number: 7019995
Abstract: A power supply of one embodiment of the invention is disclosed that includes a conversion mechanism and a feedback mechanism. The conversion mechanism is to control conversion of a first direct current (DC) signal from to a second DC signal provided to an electronic device by switching the first DC signal to vary the second DC signal. The feedback mechanism is to cause the switching control mechanism to operate in a nominal-power mode or a reduced-power mode according to a control signal received from the electronic device. The conversion mechanism is caused in the reduced-power mode to lessen at least one of the duty cycle and the frequency at which the first DC signal is switched until the voltage of the second DC signal decays to a first voltage level.
