  • Patent number: 6396332
Abstract: In a switching arrangement for applying a pulse to a load, for example a magnetron, a plurality of FET modules are stacked along the longitudinal axis and surrounded by a housing enclosing four capacitors. The capacitor means provides a current return path for current applied via the FET switches of the modules the coaxial current cancelling construction of the arrangement results in low circuiting conductance. The capacitance may be sufficiently large to provide electrostatic screening.

  • Patent number: 6389482
Abstract: When applications connect to a data pipe, which is located on the same system as the connecting applications, the data pipe is considered a local pipe. That is, local media is used to pipe the data. If, however, an application on a different system is to access the pipe, the pipe is transitioned from a local pipe to a cross-system pipe, in which an alternative non-local media is used to pipe the data. The application causing the transition and any other applications to subsequently connect to the pipe use the cross-system pipe. Any local applications still allocated to the pipe are transitioned, such that they now access the cross-system pipe, instead of the local pipe. Likewise, when an application disconnects from a cross-system pipe, such that all remaining connections to the pipe are local connections, the pipe is transitioned from a cross-system pipe to a local pipe.

  • Patent number: 6345312
Abstract: A technique for selectively dummying a data pipe transparent to a writer application is provided. A writer application writes data to a local data pipe or a cross-system data pipe and one or more reader applications read data from the data pipe. The technique involves determining when a last reader application of the at least one or more reader applications closes the data pipe before the writer application has completed writing data to the data pipe. Upon determining this condition, further writing of data to the data pipe by the writer application is transparently prevented. While transparently preventing writing to a dummied data pipe, writing of data to a fitting, e.g., for a permanent record, can proceed.

  • Patent number: 4866568
Abstract: An integrated transformer-sectionalizing switch assembly including a transformer module having a low profile feeder module mounted on and connected to the transformer module. The feeder module including two pair of circuit breakers mounted in side by side relation on each side of the feeder module with each pair of circuit breakers in back to back relation with the other pair of circuit breakers. A bare bus network is used to interconnect the secondary phase bushings to the circuit breakers. The bus network including three bus bars, each bus bar being connected to a phase busing. Each bus bar also including a phase connector connected to each circuit breaker. The phase connectors on each bus bar being arranged to correspond to the location of the same phase contact on each circuit breaker so that the circuit breakers can be interchanged. The feeder module is also provided with a compartment for a low potential transformer assembly.

  • Patent number: 4803378
Abstract: A pulse generator comprises a capacitor, means for periodically discharging the capacitor to generate pulses of electricity and means for recharging the capacitor between pulses. Means is included for sensing a residual reverse polarity charge on the capacitor after generation of a pulse and for using the energy stored in it to assist in recharging the capacitor for the next pulse.

  • Patent number: 4689593
Abstract: A transformer has a number of single turn primary windings 5 formed by printed circuit tracks on a flexible bendable sheet 3 which is wrapped around a core of the transformer. The primary windings are connected to output terminals 12 of an enclosure 1 of the transformer by another printed circuit board 8 having further conductive tracks on opposite sides thereof to form balanced transmission lines whose impedance is matched to the impedance of the primary windings.

  • Patent number: 4496924
Abstract: A pulse transformer is used in a radar transmitter to transform a high current pulse at relatively low voltage into a very high voltage pulse which can be used to directly drive a magnetron oscillator. The potential of the output pulse can be of the order of 30 kV and since the transformer is required to operate at very high peak powers of the order of two megawatts, it must be very carefully designed to avoid excessive electrical losses and voltage breakdown. The core material of the transformer consists of a closely wound reel of magnetic material in the form of an elongate tape, which is mechanically fragile. The magnetic core is loosely mounted within a sealed container so that the primary and secondary windings surround it. A conductive shield is placed around the magnetic material so as to protect it from the very large electric fields generated within the transformer. This prevents the ionization of gases which could lead to the rapid deterioration of the magnetic core material.

  • Patent number: 4482816
Abstract: A pulse circuit forms part of a radar transmitter in which a pulse forming network is used to generate a high current pulse at relatively low voltage and to feed it via a transformer to a magnetron which operates at typically 30 kV. A number of pulse forming networks are connected in parallel and are discharged by respective thyristors. The outputs of the pulse forming networks are combined so as to provide a low voltage pulse (of the order of 600 volts) having sufficient power to drive a radar transmitter. The pulse forming networks must each be capable of handling very large current and must have characteristics which are identical to each other. To enable these requirements to be met, each pulse forming network includes an inductor which is formed as a coiled thin conductive layer lying on the surface of an electrically insulating board. It is formed by printed circuit board techniques and a mirror image coil is formed on both sides of a double sided printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 4108138
Abstract: A cooking oven is made with a flat base of refractory material and a dome of refractory material forming an enclosure in which solid fuel is burned while resting directly on the base and food is also cooked directly on the base. An opening is provided in the dome wall through which fuel and food can be separately inserted within the oven. Only a relatively small part of the dome is removed to form the opening, which extends only part way up the full height of the dome. A flue is located just outside the opening so that combustion products from the fuel pass generally horizontally through the enclosed space and out the opening and up the flue. A closure is provided to shut the opening to limit the escape of heat. The dome is made by casting hemispherical sectors of refractory material and assembling the sectors into a dome on the base. The sectors are formed with interlocking edges to help hold them together and the entire dome can be enclosed within an insulated chamber..
