Patent number: 6318986Abstract: This invention relates to a device to compact parts with an undercut out of powder material having an upper die moveable relative a lower die, at least one upper punch associated with the upper die for relative movement therebetween, at least two lower punches associated with the lower die for relative movement therebetween, the lower punches defining a lower cavity with the lower die for filling with the powder material when the dies are in an open position, the upper die contacting the lower die in a closed position for movement of one of the lower punches towards the upper die so as to transfer the powder material towards the upper die and then to compact the powder material between the upper and lower punches with said dies in the closed position so as to produce the part; the dies moveable to an eject position for ejection of the compacted part.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1998Date of Patent: November 20, 2001Assignee: Stackpole LimitedInventors: Gerd Hinzmann, Mark Haiko, Frank Ma, Allan Wilson, Keith Buckley-Golder, Robert Round

Patent number: 6224995Abstract: A battery apparatus comprising a casing, at least two stacked lithium ion cells a member for maximizing the utilization of the casing and a member for precluding inadvertent deformation of the casing. The casing includes a non-uniform inner periphery. Each of at least two stacked lithium ion cells is positioned within the casing. The utilization maximizing member maximizes the utilization of the inner periphery of the casing by facilitating the independent shaping of each of the at least two stacked lithium ion cells to confirm to the inner periphery. As a result, the shape of one cell does not limit or dictate the shape of any other cell. The deformation precluding member is associated with each of the at least two lithium ion cells, and, substantially precludes inadvertent deformation of the casing by the at least two lithium ion cells, during cell cycling and storage. The invention further includes a process for fabricating a battery apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1999Date of Patent: May 1, 2001Assignee: Mitsubishi Chemical CorporationInventors: Denis G. Fauteux, Robert Rounds, III, Michael Farina

Patent number: 6063520Abstract: A container for electrolytic cells, and an electrolytic cell associated with such a container. The container includes at least two container half members attachable to each other in a mating configuration. At least one barrier member defines a cell containing region within the container. Furthermore, a cover member, in combination with an adjacent barrier member, defines a lead housing region. Electrolytic cells, such as stacks of conventional flat battery cells, have a portion positioned within the cell containing region, while the portion of the electrolytic cells having electrically exposed leads are entrapped in electrically conducting contact with each other and another electrical lead associated with the cover member, in the lead housing region. The electrical lead associated with the cover member has a portion which extends externally to the container, so as to enable electrical contact with an external device.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1997Date of Patent: May 16, 2000Assignee: Mitsubishi Chemical CorporationInventors: Denis G. Fauteux, Robert Rounds, III

Patent number: 6040078Abstract: A battery apparatus comprising a casing and at least one stacked lithium ion cell which does not require springs, windings, etc. and a member for precluding inadvertent deformation of the casing. Each of at least one stacked lithium ion cell is positioned within the casing. The deformation precluding member is associated with each of the at least one lithium ion cell, and, substantially precludes inadvertent deformation of the casing by the at least one lithium ion cell, during cell cycling and storage. The invention further includes a process for fabricating a battery apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1998Date of Patent: March 21, 2000Assignee: Mitsubishi Chemical CorporationInventors: Denis G.
