    Abstract: A multi-band antenna comprising a conductive structure and a plurality of current probes coupled around the conductive structure. Each current probe is designed to receive and transmit in a substantially different frequency band than the other current probes. The current probes are positioned on the conductive structure so as to effectively create a plurality of transmit/receive antennas such that each respective antenna has a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of less than or equal to approximately 3:1 for a given range within each respective frequency band.

    Abstract: An antenna includes a liner shaped to fit over a helmet; a first RF element attached to the liner; a second RF element attached to the liner so that the first and second RF elements are separated by a gap; an RF feed electrically connected to the first RF element for providing RF energy to the first RF element; a ground feed electrically connected to the second RF element; a first shorting strap that is electrically connected to the first and second elements opposite from the RF feed; and a second shorting strap electrically connected to the first and second RF elements between the first shorting strap and the RF feed. The shorting straps are used to generally match the impedance of the antenna to an electrical device such as a transmitter, receiver, or transceiver. A matching circuit may be connected in series between the first RF element and the RF feed to further refine matching the antenna impedance to the electrical device.

    Abstract: An ultra-broadband antenna is incorporated into an electrically nonconductive garment. The antenna includes first and second RF elements attached to the garment so that a gap exists between them, where the RF elements each form a band when the garment is worn by a wearer. RF and ground feeds are electrically connected to the first and second RF elements, respectively. A shorting strap electrically connected between the first and second RF elements on the anterior side of the garment generally opposite the feeds helps match the antenna impedance to an external signal source. A gap between the RF elements provides a voltage difference between the RF elements when the antenna is energized. Electrically conductive straps are electrically connected between the anterior and dorsal regions of the first RF element that extend over the shoulder region of the garment.

    Abstract: A high-power broadband antenna comprises an impedance matching transformer electrically coupled to a radio frequency source generating an input signal having a base wavelength corresponding to the lowest frequency of the input signal. The impedance transformer is electrically coupled to at least two vertical antenna sections. Each antenna section comprises a plurality of substantially collinear electrically conductive radiating elements fixed to an electrical insulator mounted on a horizontal ground plane. Each radiating element has a length appropriate to effect optimum overall efficiency of the high-power broadband antenna over the frequency bandwidth of the input signal. At least two loading elements are each electrically coupled between the radiating elements in each antenna section. Each loading element comprises a parallel combination of a resistor, an inductor, and a capacitor to effect optimum overall efficiency of the high-power broadband antenna over the frequency bandwidth of the input signal.

    Abstract: A broad band HF communications antenna for surface ships has an increased rvivability over the currently used twin fan antennas. Capacitively coupling a long, flat conductive strap to existing ship structures helps achieve broadband performance. Integral end sections of the long, flat conductive strap are bent at each end and a dielectric layer with a low dielectric constant is provided along the length of each end section. The end sections and dielectric layers provide the areas needed for capacitive coupling to a mast and stack or other parts of the ship's superstructure thereby creating a survivable and broadband HF communications antenna design.
