  • Patent number: 4307446
Abstract: An assemblage of digital devices, each having serial asynchronous input and output channels, can be connected via networks of speed independent arbiter and selector switches. Certain classes of networks have desirable properties: distributed control of routing, conflict resolution, automatic identification of source network address with respect to destination, and exploitation of permissable concurrent operations.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 2, 1979
Date of Patent: December 22, 1981
    Assignee: Burroughs Corporation
Inventors: Robert S. Barton, Becky J. Clark
  • Patent number: 4156909
Abstract: A character-serial electronic digital computer utilizing four character vocabulary, each character being represented by two binary bits, is structured to process character-serial data arriving at the computer in a manner specified and initiated by the arriving data. Data structures that may represent program or operations to be performed on data arriving at the computer input are stored in the computer's storage area in the form of nested data structures that may be illustrated as tree structures in which each node of the tree structure represents an operation. Data structures that may represent operands are also supplied to the computer in a nested organization. This operand data addresses a certain node or operation resident in the computer storage area. The linking up of the arriving operand data with its program data triggers execution of the operation.

Date of Patent: May 29, 1979
    Assignee: Burroughs Corporation
Inventors: Robert S. Barton, Alan L. Davis, Erwin A. Hauck, Gary W. Hodgman, Don M. Lyle, Lloyd D. Turner

  • Patent number: 4137436
Abstract: An operating device for an electric circuit breaker comprises a closing spring and a rotatable spring-controller mounted for rotation between first and second dead-center positions with respect to the spring. The spring is charged by transmitting rotational forces to the spring-controller through a main pawl mounted on the spring-controller and an abutment on a rotatable driving member. The main pawl is released from driven engagement with the abutment at the end of a spring-charging operation. Normal circuit-breaker closing is effected by allowing the spring to quickly discharge after a charging operation.A manual slow-close operation of the circuit breaker is effected through an auxiliary pawl mounted on the spring-controller in a position angularly-spaced from the main pawl. During normal spring-charging and discharging operations, this auxiliary pawl is prevented from engaging the abutment on the driving member.
