  • Patent number: 4470271
Abstract: The outdoor unit for an electric heat pump is provided with an upper portion 10 containing propeller fan means 14 for drawing air through the lower portion 12 containing refrigerant coil means 16 in the form of four discrete coils connected together in a subassembly forming a W shape, the unit being provided with four adjustable legs 64 which are retracted in shipment, and are adjusted on site to elevate the unit to a particular height suitable for the particular location in which the unit is installed.

  • Patent number: 4449376
Abstract: An indoor unit for an electric heat pump is provided in modular form including a refrigeration module 10, an air mover module 12, and a resistance heat package module 14, the refrigeration module including all of the indoor refrigerant circuit components including the compressor 36 in a space adjacent the heat exchanger 28, the modules being adapted to be connected to air flow communication in several different ways as shown in FIGS. 4-7 to accommodate placement of the unit in various orientations.

  • Patent number: 4262493
Abstract: A heat pump is provided with an outdoor heat exchanger 30 having a main section 30a and a subcooling section 30b, with a circuiting arrangement and distribution and control means including expansion device 48, check valve 54 and lines 52, 56, 58 and 60 connected so that in a cooling mode of operation of the unit the refrigerant flows through the main section and then the subcooling section in series, and in a heating mode of operation the refrigerant flows only through the main section with the subcooling section receiving refrigerant for storage.

  • Patent number: 4139052
Abstract: The air conditioning unit of the invention has a construction of the indoor air flow section which adapts it to receive and return indoor air either through its bottom area in a vertical air flow mode, or through its end wall in a horizontal air flow mode so that the unit may be either roof top mounted or slab mounted without the need of any added section or module furnished by the manufacturer. The indoor air flow section includes a draw-through refrigerant coil located in an upper quadrant of the section, a detachable panel separating two lower quadrants in the section for the vertical air flow mode and movable to separate a lower and upper quadrant for the horizontal air flow mode, and removable end wall panel means covering the end in the vertical air flow mode and being positioned to cover the bottom for the horizontal air flow mode.

  • Patent number: 4118083
Abstract: The base construction comprises base rails along each side and each end, with each of the rails having the shape in transverse cross section of an upwardly open channel with the outer leg of the channel having a height greater than the inner leg, and the inner leg having a horizontal flange projecting inwardly from along the top of the inner leg, and separate pan means forming the bottom walls for both the outdoor air flow section and the separate indoor air flow section, each including a horizontal wall and an upturned flange along each edge, the pans nesting in the frame formed by the rails, the assembly thus formed being secured together by spot welding the upturned flanges to the outer legs, and the horizontal walls of the pans along their margins to the inwardly projecting horizontal flanges of the rails.
