  • Patent number: 10095946
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods for strike through detection and, more particularly, to systems and methods for detecting a strike through in an address block of a mailpiece. The method is implemented in a computing device and includes: generating edges of lines within a text block identified through optical character recognition processes; locating text lines within the text block; characterizing the edges within the text lines and outside of the text lines; and grouping identified edges of the characterized edges outside of the text lines into co-linear groups.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 7, 2016
Date of Patent: October 9, 2018
    Assignee: LOCKHEED MARTIN CORPORATION
Inventors: Richard C. Vanhall, Robert S. Lunt, IV

  • Publication number: 20080008383
Abstract: A system is presented for metermark recognition. This includes a plurality of binarization elements, each being operative to produce a binarized image from a source image. A clustering element clusters pixels within a first binarized image, produced at a first of the plurality of binarization elements, to locate at least one character string. A classification element identifies a plurality of characters comprising the located character string. A verification system evaluates the identified plurality of characters and instructs a second of the plurality of binarization elements to produce a second binarized image if the identified characters are determined to be unreliable.

  • Patent number: 7266218
Abstract: A method and system provide measures of the performance of a region of interest identification algorithm. The method includes obtaining known region of interest data for an object. A candidate region of interest for that object is identified using the region of interest identification algorithm to be evaluated. Candidate region of interest data is then obtained. The known region of interest is superimposed on the candidate region of interest. The area of the overlap between the known region of interest and the candidate region of interest is determined. Finally, a measure of performance based on the area overlap is obtained. The method is implemented in a system including one or more processors and or memories.

  • Patent number: 5324363
Abstract: Accumulation of carbonaceous deposits on the combustion chamber surfaces of internal combustion engines is responsible for increased fuel octane requirement to prevent knock. Treatment of these carbonaceous deposits with weak bases, such as aqueous ethylenediamine, aids in their removal and thereby reduces the octane requirement of an internal combustion engine. The method is also applicable for removal of carbonaceous deposits from metal surfaces generally.
