  • Patent number: 5962399
Abstract: A process for preparing high detergency or surfactant alkyl polyglycoside compositions and a purified alkyl monoglycoside and to compositions employing the polyglycosides for various end use applications. The process involves removal of a substantial portion of the monoglycoside present in a reaction product mixture containing alkyl polyglycosides resulting from the reaction of an alcohol and saccharide at elevated temperatures in the presence of an acid catalyst. Separation of the monoglycoside from the reaction product mixture may be carried out by molecular distillation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 13, 1997
Date of Patent: October 5, 1999
    Assignee: Henkel Corporation
Inventors: Harald P. Wulff, Paul A. Siracusa, Patricia E. Bator, Barry A. Salka, Michael W. Counts, Robert A. Aleksejczyk, Patrick M. McCurry, Jr., Robert S. McDaniel, William G. Kozak, Allen D. Urfer, Gail Howell

  • Patent number: 4678595
Abstract: Aqueous liquid carpet and upholstery shampoo compositions are provided which comprise a glycoside surfactant, a normally solid, water soluble or water dispersible polymer component and water. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the surfactant ingredient employed consists essentially of one or more glycoside surfactants and utilizes a polymer-containing shampoo modifier system of the type disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,203,859.The indicated compositions are utilized in the cleaning of soiled carpet or upholstery by applying said composition to the soiled carpeting or upholstery; permitting same to dry and harden thereon and thereafter removing at least a portion of the resulting soil-containing polymer residue by vacuuming.
