Patent number: 4925188Abstract: A toy race track and lap counter comprising a track with adjacent lanes each forming a complete circuit and racing objects which are propelled around the track by pressurized air controllably discharging from separate nozzles in a propulsion tower. Separate air impulse devices are provided for each player for controlling the timing and intensity of each burst of pressurized air against that player's racing object as it passes by the propulsion tower and beneath the nozzles. A plurality of propulsion towers may also be provided which are operably interconnectable whereby simultaneous air bursts are applied at more than one location around the track by each player by manually timing the activation of that player's air impulse device.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1989Date of Patent: May 15, 1990Inventors: Robert S. Patent number: 4799916Abstract: A motorless toy vehicle and propelling track. The toy vehicle includes a gear housing having a drive system, the drive system including a drive gear and a ratchet means for controlling the direction of rotation of the drive gear. The track is adapted to receive and laterally direct the toy vehicle as it passes there along and includes a rack coextensive with the track having upwardly disposed teeth there along which operably engage with the drive gear. A rack drive reciprocates the rack back and forth in the track interacting with the ratcheted drive gear to propel the toy vehicle in the direction determined by the position of the ratchet means. Hill and switch tracks are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1988Date of Patent: January 24, 1989Inventors: Robert S. McKay, Dennis R. Dahm

Patent number: 4778433Abstract: The disclosed toy creature defines a mouth, a tongue, and means for manipulating the tongue between a substantially extended straight orientation projecting from the mouth, and a coiled orientation totally within the mouth. As so manipulated, the tongue may be coiled around and entrap some toy prey, and draw the prey back toward and into the mouth, as if to eat the prey. The mouth may be opened and closed, correlated to the movement of the tongue, particularly in opening the mouth wide only upon the tongue being recoiled, to carry the captured prey into the opened mouth. The tongue may be formed of links, pivoted together end-to-end; and a push-pull member, extended substantially the full length of the tongue links, but offset laterally from the pivot connections, may be used for manipulating the tongue.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 1987Date of Patent: October 18, 1988Assignee: Up-Trend DesignInventors: Robert S. McKay, Dennis R. Dahm, Robert S. McLennan

Patent number: 4772242Abstract: A wheeled toy vehicle is disclosed having a frame and a drive wheel rotatably mounted on the frame, to roll across a support surface. A pair of forearms are pivoted to the frame, respectively on its opposite sides. Each forearm has a fist at its forward end and an elbow at its rearward end. Each forearm is constrained to pivot between a raised position having its fist well above the elbow and the support surface, and a lowered position having its fist close to the support surface. A drive couples each forearm, at a location between the elbow and fist, to the drive wheel, for repeatedly raising and lowering each forearm, as the drive wheel is rotated. A pair of upper arms respectively are pivoted to the forearms at the elbows. The upper arm is angled relative to its associated forearm, the angle between each upper arm and forearm being its minimum near the raised position and being its maximum near the lowered position.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1987Date of Patent: September 20, 1988Assignee: Up-Trend DesignInventors: Robert S. Patent number: 4731042Abstract: The disclosed toy may be used for capturing an intended toy victim within a snare net sufficiently large when opened to fit over and around at least part of the victim. A carrier, shaped as a monstrous insect or the like, may be used for holding the net open while stalking the victim, for positioning the net over and down around the victim, and for releasing the net when desired to snare the victim. The carrier may have a body and a plurality of legs depending from the body in an array to fit at least partially down and around the victim. Corresponding free ends of the legs have means for receiving and removably holding the snare net, to hold the same opened. The net may be elongated and generally tubular in shape, having a closed end and an open end. Flexible elastic means at the open net end, may be stretched to the holding means on the legs; and when released, may resiliently close the open net end against and relative to the victim.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1986Date of Patent: March 15, 1988Assignee: Robert S. Patent number: 4676765Abstract: A self propelled toy vehicle provided with a self contained bridging assembly. A bridging assembly is provided which upon manual actuation is automatically positioned to be driven over by the toy vehicle as it climbs over an embankment or passes over a chasm. After the vehicle has passed over the bridging member, it is automatically returned to a rest position on top of the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1986Date of Patent: June 30, 1987Assignee: Robert S. Patent number: 4670991Abstract: A drawing machine having a frame for translatory movement upon a drawing surface. The frame defines an elongated, transverse interior opening. A plurality of template means are removably receivable within the interior opening. Each includes an aperture defining a shape which may be traced upon the drawing surface by the user. The template means may be repositioned along the transverse length of the elongated interior opening. Translatory movement of the drawing machine upon the drawing surface and guided movement of the template means along the interior opening permit the user to create varied patterns and pictures.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1985Date of Patent: June 9, 1987Assignee: Robert S. Patent number: 4639236Abstract: A toy formed as a small vehicle which is propelled from a simulated explosive such as dynamite. The simulated dynamite is inserted in the rear of the toy. The toy vehicle is released from the simulated explosive by a cable attached to a plunger type detonator. The insertion of the simulated dynamite into the vehicle compresses a spring which drives the vehicle away from the simulated dynamite on actuation of a release mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1985Date of Patent: January 27, 1987Assignee: Robert S. Patent number: 4605229Abstract: A mechanical toy dragstrip having a base, and a starting tower disposed on the base. As in drag racing, two parallel car tracks and two car loading or starting positions are provided. The starting tower is used to signal the beginning of the race by displaying, in sequence, red, yellow and green marbles which simulate the lights of a dragstrip "Christmas tree". The marbles roll down a path in the tower and are displayed in apertures to simulate lights. As the green marble is displayed, a set of starting flags raise automatically, and toy vehicles may be launched from sets of trigger assemblies. The toy is arranged such that the cars may be released manually upon perception of the green "go" marble or such that one of the cars is released automatically after display of the green "go" marble upon raising of the starting flags to race against the other car which is released manually.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 1985Date of Patent: August 12, 1986Inventor: Robert S. McKay

Patent number: 4580992Abstract: A doll or toy action figure, transformable from a first character, to a second character. A hard molded head has a facial countenance of a character. A flexible latex mask is positioned around the neck and is fixedly attached. The outer surface of the latex mask has facial characteristics of another character. Means are provided for moving the mask from a first position at least partially covering the head and displaying the facial countenance on the mask, to a second position about the neck of the head wherein the facial characteristics of the head are exposed. Articles of clothing may be removed or rearranged to augment the effect.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1985Date of Patent: April 8, 1986Inventor: Robert S. McKay

Patent number: 4005543Abstract: This disclosure includes a primary-secondary vehicle combination toy having means for first propelling the combination for a predetermined distance after which the secondary vehicle is projected into flight for further travel. The combination is preferably propelled along a surface by a portable spring launch while the secondary vehicle is ejected from the primary vehicle by a mounted propulsion unit. This latter propulsion unit may comprise a spring actuated by a distance measuring unit such as an axle drive shaft which controls release of the spring and ejection of the secondary unit for flight away from the primary unit.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1975Date of Patent: February 1, 1977Inventor: Robert S.
