Patent number: 11406270Abstract: An apparatus includes a wearable sensor structure that includes multiple individual sensor units placed in a row. Each individual sensor unit includes a first portion to contact a surface of skin under which arteries and/or veins are to be located, and a second portion that contacts the first portion and is configured to have a capacitance. The first and second portions are configured to create a capacitance change in response to a squeezing or bending between the first portion and a fixed part of the second portion caused by a pulse pressure and release of the pulse pressure. The apparatus includes circuitry configured to measure waveforms for the individual sensor units. Each waveform captures the capacitance change for its corresponding individual sensor unit. The apparatus includes a wireless interface configured to transmit the waveforms. A computing system is also disclosed that analyzes the waveforms and can provide alerts based thereon.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2017Date of Patent: August 9, 2022Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Ali Afzali-Ardakani, Kang-Wook Lee, Robert S. Olyha, Jr.

Patent number: 8494223Abstract: A method, information processing system, and computer program storage product annotate video images associated with an environmental situation based on detected actions of a human interacting with the environmental situation. A set of real-time video images are received that are captured by at least one video camera associated with an environment presenting one or more environmental situations to a human. One or more user actions made by the human that is associated with the set of real-time video images with respect to the environmental situation are monitored. A determination is made, based on the monitoring, that the human driver has one of performed and failed to perform at least one action associated with one or more images of the set of real-time video images. The one or more images of the set of real-time video images are annotated with a set of annotations.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2012Date of Patent: July 23, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Jonathan Connell, Norman Haas, Arun Hampapur, Ying Li, Robert S. Patent number: 7808257Abstract: A method and apparatus for the non-contact electrical test of both opens and shorts in electronic substrates. Top surface electrical test features are exposed to an ionization source under ambient conditions and the subsequent charge build up is measured as a drain current by probes contacting corresponding bottom surface features. Opens are detected by an absence of a drain current and shorts are detected by turning off the ionization source and re-measuring the bottom surface probes with a varying bias applied to each probe in the array.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2003Date of Patent: October 5, 2010Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Christopher W. Patent number: 5570111Abstract: A user interface apparatus and method for a computing or processing system employing a graphical user interface is presented. In order to provide a good user feel, and specifically to avoid a feeling of inertia or sluggishness in cursor motion as the user starts or stops movement, the apparatus and method provide a negative inertia transfer function. That is, the cursor movement signal produced by applying the input parameter to a transfer function in accordance with the invention is related to a sum of (i) the input parameter, and (ii) a signal related to the rate of change of the input parameter. This is preferably implemented as an additive high-pass transfer function. Preferred embodiments can employ analog circuitry or a digitally programmed transfer function algorithm.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 1994Date of Patent: October 29, 1996Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Robert C. Patent number: 4599558Abstract: An imaging system for detecting recombination center defects in a semiconductor wafer in which an oxidized wafer is pre-treated by charging the oxide in a corona discharge and then passing the charged wafer below a stationary bifurcated electrode. A focused laser beam is scanned between the arms of the bifurcated electrode and along its length as the wafer is slowly moved transversely to the direction of laser scanning. The signal from the bifurcated electrode is displayed in an imaging system, one axis of which is synchronized to the laser scanning and the other axis is synchronized to the movement of the wafer.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1983Date of Patent: July 8, 1986Assignee: IBMInventors: Anthony J.
