    Abstract: In one embodiment, a device of a first wireless communication network determines location information and antenna properties corresponding to each of a plurality of unintended receivers of a second wireless communication network. The device may then compute a protection zone for each of the plurality of unintended receivers based on the location information and antenna properties, wherein a protection zone defines a geographical area where transmission by a terminal in the first wireless communication network might interfere with operation of a corresponding unintended receiver. As such, the terminal may thus determine whether to perform or prevent an attempted transmission to an intended receiver in the first wireless communication network based on whether a current location of the terminal, at a time of the attempted transmission by the terminal, is within any protection zone of the plurality of unintended receivers.

    Abstract: A portable communications device (PCD) for communications with two or more communications systems including a power unit, a transceiver unit and a control unit. The power unit is for powering the communications device so as to enable it to be portable. The transceiver unit includes a local unit for communicating with a local communications system and a satellite unit for communicating with a satellite communications system. The control unit is for controlling communications by the local unit and the satellite unit. The control unit includes a sensing algorithm for sensing requests for communications, a selection algorithm for automatically selecting the local unit or the satellite unit for communications. A software controlled transceiver unit is used together with parameter algorithms for automatically controlling communications and modifying the system budget.

    Abstract: A communication system that communicates for locating one or more tags in a time and energy efficient manner. The tags are positioned in a communication region and are located by a locator. The tags are located through organized transmission and reception of signals between the tags and the locator. The locator locates and gives directions to tags from the locator using a radio link and a multi-channel ultrasonic acoustic link. The combination of linkages provides the means to determine the unobstructed bearing and distance between the locator and the tag and resolves multipath reflections.
