  • Patent number: 10367260
Abstract: A communication device, method and computer program product provide improved performance of one radio frequency (RF) conduction path using an antenna tuner of another RF conduction path while dynamically reducing current drain by the antenna tuner. A determination is made that a first RF conduction path is active in using a first portion of a multiple band antenna system for at least one of: (i) transmitting; and (ii) receiving a signal. An antenna tuner of a second RF conduction path that uses a second portion of the multiple band antenna system is activated. The antenna tuner is configured to tune the second portion of the multiple band antenna system to isolate the second portion from the first portion used by the first RF conduction path. The antenna tuner is deactivated in response to determining that both the first and second RF conduction paths are inactive.

  • Patent number: 9590686
Abstract: A method of pre-stressing the variable capacitor device that experiences a temporary time variant hysteresis effect is provided for electronic circuitry, which may include a mobile communication device. The method includes providing a periodic bias voltage to the variable capacitor such that the variable capacitor is maintained at least at a target stress level such that the capacitance of the variable capacitor when subject to a target bias voltage is predictable due to the time variant hysteresis effect being reduced.

  • Patent number: 9413409
Abstract: A method and apparatus for tuning an antenna of a communication device includes receiving, at a processing element within the communication device, data relevant to tuning the antenna and identifying an unreliable portion of the data. The method also includes identifying, based on the unreliable portion of the data, a first set of tuning states for tuning the antenna, wherein the first set of tuning states is a subset of a plurality of possible tuning states for tuning the antenna. The method further includes restricting tuning of the antenna to tuning states within the first set of tuning states.

  • Patent number: 9301177
Abstract: A method and system performs antenna tuning which enhances radio frequency (RF) tuner reliability within a wireless communication device (WCD). The WCD, in response to receiving a request to change an active RF tuning state, retrieves component usage data corresponding to components of a tuning circuit that is tunable to an RF operating channel. The WCD selectively determines, using device environment state data and/or RF state data and the component usage data, an RF tuning state tuned to the RF operating channel. The selected RF tuning state (a) satisfies tuning performance specifications and (b) enhances component reliability performance by minimizing an operational wear on tuning circuit components. The WCD configures the tuning circuit using the selected RF tuning state and tracks session parameter values for tuning circuit components during a corresponding communication session.

  • Patent number: 9288676
Abstract: Arrangements described herein relate to controlling RF communications by a communication device. Raw sensor data from one or more sensors can be received by a sensor processor. The sensor processor processes the raw sensor data to generate processed sensor data. An application processor processes a portion of the processed sensor data. The application processor is configured to operate in a locked state in which a user is not allowed to alter the at least one secured application and operate in an unlocked state in which the user is allowed to alter the at least one secured application. A portion of the processed sensor data is received from the sensor processor by a communications processor and further processed. The processed sensor data received by the communications processor from the sensor processor is trusted sensor data not affected by the application processor when the application processor operates in the unlocked state.

  • Patent number: 6885322
Abstract: A transmitter circuit (10) includes a phase shifter (20) that receives phase shift compensation and timing data (40), and an amplifier (30) that receives a control signal (70) to initiate an efficiency enhancement technique. The phase shifter (20) receives the phase shift compensation and timing data (40), and the amplifier (30) receives the control signal (70) at a pre-defined relative time such that the compensation phase shift by the phase shifter (20) compensates for a pre-determined phase change in the amplifier (30) to produce an RF output signal (80) with a reduced predicted phase change.
