  • Patent number: 8310117
Abstract: A power plant for a jet-type model airplanes and UAVs includes an electric motor and a cover. The cover receives a portion of the electric motor and a sleeve into which the electric motor is inserted. The sleeve has a plurality of fins to dissipate heat and create openings into the cover. Air from the fan rotor passes through the openings to cool an electronic speed control member and exits a rear opening in the cover. The cover may also have additional openings for air to enter into the cover.

  • Patent number: 5601159
Abstract: A brake assembly and method are provided wherein a shaft having a bore rotates about a rod such that a flexible ring member positioned within a groove of the rod expands into frictional contact with the shaft bore wall for restricting rotation of the shaft when pressure is increased in a chamber formed between the flexible ring member and a bottom portion of the groove. The brake assembly for use with a model vehicle incorporates an onboard air pressure tank which suppplies pressure to the chamber forcing the O-ring into frictional contact with a rotating hub for bringing the rotating hub to a stop. A pressure regulator valve having both high and low pressure sources provides multiple pressure levels to the chamber for imparting varying frictional forces to the rotating hub for taking the vehicle through a controlled slowing and stopping action.

  • Patent number: 4685289
Abstract: A ducted fan type model aircraft power plant having a mounting for a one cylinder internal combustion model aircraft engine. The preferred engine utilized a special vertically oriented carburetor. A duct is supported by a set of stators having an aerodynamic shape for straightening airflow through the duct. A fan having seven identical individual replaceable blades is disposed at the front of the duct and directly driven by the engine. One stator is adapted to essentially enclose the vertical carburetor and to smoothly direct the airflow from the fan around the carburetor to the engine cylinder for cooling. The stator has an opening to the carburetor air inlet for providing air under pressure thereto. The stator shapes cooperate with the duct and aft fairings of the power plant to deliver a smooth airstream having a uniform non-turbulent flow to produce a maximum propulsive efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4369149
Abstract: A vertically oriented carburetor for use in a model jet aircraft power plant having an essentially circular duct and a multibladed fan. The carburetor utilizes an essentially cylindrical body having a web portion to permit airflow from the fan for cooling the cylinder of a model engine and a forwardly oriented carburetor air opening for receiving pressurized air from the fan. Concentric fuel feed and throttle tubes have their adjustments for control at the top end so as to be external to the power plant circular duct to eliminate interference with the propulsion airstream from the fan.
