Patent number: 6040739Abstract: A new amplifier module construction enhances the manufacturer's ability to repetitively construct multiple copies of millimeter microwave amplifiers having performance characteristics that are consistent with one another, particularly in input VSWR ratio characteristic, and which performance characteristic do not significantly change following any necessary rework of the amplifier module, including any MMIC chip replacement. In this module, a waveguide to microstrip transition is formed of a backshort member that is separate from the metal base or cover and that backshort member is held pressed in place against the substrate by force exerted by the module's cover plate through a spring member against the exterior of the backshort member. The spring member is formed by a resilient compressible gasket.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1998Date of Patent: March 21, 2000Assignee: TRW Inc.Inventors: Robert S. Wedeen, Arthur J. Patent number: 5554915Abstract: A high impedance AC coupling arrangement that processes a transducer feedback signal derived from an output shaft of an electric vehicle motor to compensate for electrical motor pulsations. The high impedance AC coupling arrangement is coupled between the transducer and a summing device and generates a feedback compensation signal that is combined with an input signal to compensate for output shaft oscillations. The high impedance AC coupling arrangement includes a loop amplifier having a predetermined transfer function that is coupled to the transducer, and AC coupling circuitry, typically including a plurality of coupling capacitors, that is coupled between the loop amplifier and the summing device. A limiter circuit having first and second oppositely coupled diodes is coupled between a voltage source and a point between the AC coupling capacitors. A cascode amplifier is coupled to the AC coupling circuitry.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1995Date of Patent: September 10, 1996Assignee: Delco Electronics CorporationInventors: Robert S. Patent number: 5442268Abstract: A torque oscillation compensation system and torque estimator that uses torque emulator/observer feedback derived from an electric vehicle motor drive train. The present torque oscillation compensation system is adapted for use with an electric vehicle comprising a source of torque command signals and an electric motor that is controlled by a power switching circuit. The power switching circuit is responsive to the torque command signals and provides pulse width modulated signals for driving the motor. The system comprises a torque estimator that is coupled to received pulse width modulated signals provided by the power switching circuit, and motor currents and speed, for providing estimated torque feedback signals derived therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1993Date of Patent: August 15, 1995Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventors: Gholam D. Patent number: 5359269Abstract: A torque oscillation compensation system and circuit that uses torque transducer feedback derived from an output shaft of an electric vehicle motor to compensate for electrical motor pulsations such as are experienced in an electric vehicle. A torque input source provides a torque input signal, that is coupled to a summing circuit. A controller is coupled to the summing circuit, and power switching circuitry is coupled between the controller and the electric motor. A torque transducer is coupled to the output shaft of the motor to sense torque pulsations. An oscillation compensation circuit is coupled between the torque transducer and the summing circuit that generates a feedback compensation signal that is combined with the torque input signal to compensate for output shaft oscillators.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1993Date of Patent: October 25, 1994Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventors: Robert S. Wedeen, Gholam D. Goodarzi

Patent number: 5350989Abstract: A torque oscillation compensation system and circuit that senses battery current to compensate for electrical motor torque pulsations. An input source provides a torque/current command input signal that drives the motor, and a summing device has one input coupled to receive the torque/current command input signal. A controller is coupled to the summing device and to power switching circuitry that is coupled between the battery and the electric motor. An oscillation compensation circuit is coupled between the battery and the summing device that generates a compensation signal that is combined with the torque/current command input signal and compensates for output shaft oscillators. The oscillation compensation circuit comprises an AC coupling capacitor, an amplifier having a predetermined transfer function that is designed to provide for the proper amount of compensation. The present invention compensates for the torque fluctuations caused by induction motors and permits stable operation thereof.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1993Date of Patent: September 27, 1994Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventor: Robert S. Patent number: 5349278Abstract: A torque oscillation compensation system and circuit that uses motor speed to compensate for electrical motor torque pulsations. An input source provides a torque/current command input signal that drives the motor by way of a controller, and a summing device has one input coupled to receive the torque/current command input signal. A controller is coupled to power switching circuitry that is coupled between the power source and the electric motor. A speed sensor is coupled to the motor and is adapted to provide a motor speed output signal. An oscillation compensation circuit is coupled between a speed sensor and the summing device that generates a compensation signal in response to the motor speed output signal that is combined with the torque input signal and compensates for output shaft oscillations.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1993Date of Patent: September 20, 1994Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventor: Robert S. Patent number: 5184288Abstract: A power rectifying circuit (10) for converting an AC power signal to DC which includes a plurality of rectifiers (20) that receive power from a single AC power source (12). The AC power signal is power split amongst the plurality of rectifiers (20). Each power split signal is phase shifted by an incremental amount of phase shift and provided to on of the rectifiers (20). The rectified DC output of each rectifier is summed together and provided to a load (22) as DC power.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1991Date of Patent: February 2, 1993Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventors: Robert D. Patent number: 4999583Abstract: An amplifier drive control circuit having a power combiner for combining an RF input signal with a feedback signal to provide a composite RF signal, a power control circuit for providing a selectively attenuated replica of the composite RF signal to the input of the amplifier, and feedback circuitry connected between the output of the amplifier and the power combiner for providing a level controlled portion of the output of the amplifier as the feedback signal. The power control circuit selectively attenuates the replica of the composite RF signal when the power of the composite RF signal exceeds a predetermined threshold, while the feedback circuitry controls the level of the feedback signal as a function of the gain of the amplifier as determined by the level of the composite RF signal and the level of the amplifier output. The feedback circuitry includes a feedback phase control circuit for controlling the phase of the feedback signal relative to the input to the amplifier.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1990Date of Patent: March 12, 1991Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventors: Robert D.
