Publication number: 20080256765Abstract: A marine line hauling assembly includes a line hauling device and a drive casing. The drive casing has a first attachment flange and the line hauling device has a second attachment flange. These first and second flanges are attached to each other by a flange clamp circumferentially embracing the flanges to press them together by an inwardly-facing surface of the flange clamp due to circumferential tension in the flange clamp. The flange clamp has a pivot arrangement for attaching the clamp to a substrate (such as one of the attachment flanges). In this way, the flange clamp is attachable to the substrate but pivotable about the pivot point away from the first and second flanges. This allows the flanges to be brought together before pivoting the clamp back towards the flanges for attachment.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2008Publication date: October 23, 2008Inventor: Robert Sam

Patent number: 6913029Abstract: A process and apparatus to deliver both process chemical and solvent for cleaning the process chemical in a solvent purge refill system along with an integral solvent sorption module, in a single “assembly” that permits ease of shipping, minimal end-user interaction, sufficient solvent for the solvent purge operation, without residual solvent, requiring disposal. This eliminates customer handling of the solvent, and eliminates the customer's need to find a solvent waste facility, as residual solvent can be returned in the same package in one piece/one step.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2004Date of Patent: July 5, 2005Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: Robert Sam Zorich, David Allen Roberts, George Oleg Voloshin

Publication number: 20050079916Abstract: The present invention relates to constant velocity (CV) joints and, more particularly, to a retaining ring for CV joints and a method of assembling a retaining ring on a CV joint. The tripod constant velocity joint may be assembled by placing a retaining ring in alignment with a trunnion head, applying a force to the aligned retaining ring to expand the diameter of said retaining ring so that a fracture area on the retaining ring fractures. After the fracture area fractures, the retaining ring is displaced into a retaining groove on the trunnion. The retaining ring includes an outer surface, an inner surface, a first notch extending from one of the inner and outer surfaces to the other of the inner and outer surfaces, and a fracture area extending from the first notch to the other of the inner and outer surfaces.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2003Publication date: April 14, 2005Inventors: Peter Bongartz, Bradley Doner, Michael Hopson, Robert Sams

Publication number: 20050039830Abstract: A method of induction heat treating the outer surface of articles having an irregular surface shape. The method employs an induction coil that provides a non-planar magnetic field that is adapted to the irregular shape of the article, such that distinct sections of the induction coil produce distinct magnetic fields that are adapted to induce currents in, and thereby provide heat to, distinct sections of the outer surface of the article. The method and induction coil are particularly adapted to provide an induction hardening heat treatment for the outer surfaces of the inner races of Rzeppa-type constant velocity joints.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2003Publication date: February 24, 2005Inventors: Mark Christofis, Michael Hopson, Ted Szczomak, Norman Szalony, Robert Sams, Richard Seidel, William Bogen

Publication number: 20050039829Abstract: A method of induction heat-treating certain surfaces of an article comprising a hub and a plurality of trunnions or shafts extending therefrom, wherein the surfaces to be heat-treated comprise the surfaces of the trunnions. The method employs an induction coil that provides a planar magnetic field that is adapted to the irregular shape of the article, such that the induction coil produces magnetic fields that are adapted to induce currents in, and thereby heat, the trunnion surfaces of the article. The method and induction coil are particularly adapted to provide an induction hardening heat treatment for trunnion surfaces of trunnions used in steel spiders of spider or tripod-type constant velocity joints.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2003Publication date: February 24, 2005Inventors: Mark Christofis, Michael Hopson, Ted Szczomak, Norman Szalony, Robert Sams, Richard Seidel, William Bogen

Patent number: 6699134Abstract: An anti-shudder constant velocity universal joint of the tripod type is provided having an outer joint member including three circumferentially distributed, axially extending longitudinal tracks formed therein, and an inner joint member having three circumferentially distributed radial journals arranged to engage the longitudinal tracks when the joint is assembled. The end of each journal is mated with and supports rotation of a roller bearing assembly, while rotating and pivoting within the roller bearing assembly upon articulation of the joint. This reduces the frictional forces on the roller bearings created by maintaining the roller bearings in a relatively proper/parallel orientation within the tracks by allowing the journal ends to freely rotate and pivot therein. A spherical-to-spherical contact surface is provided between the journal ends and an inner ring of the respective roller bearing assemblies to lower Hertzian stresses by distributing forces over a larger region of contact.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2001Date of Patent: March 2, 2004Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Robert Sams, Michael W. Hopson, Holm Schmitt, Robert F. Keller, Bradley W. Doner, Alexander Haertel

Patent number: 6534666Abstract: This invention relates to an improvement in a purification process for producing those liquid copper based complexes of &bgr;-diketones and, particularly the monovalent copper complexes of &bgr;-diketones, which are suited for application by chemical vapor deposition in the electronics industry. In the basic process for preparing a copper based complex, a reactive copper compound is reacted with a fluorinated &bgr;-diketonate and an organo source such as an olefinic source or one having acetylenic unsaturation. Purification is effected by contacting reaction product with a double deionized deoxygenated water source and preferably an acid/water source. An aqueous layer and an organic layer are formed with the aqueous layer containing byproducts and the organic phase containing product.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 2001Date of Patent: March 18, 2003Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: Robert Sam Zorich, James Richard Thurmond, David Allen Roberts

Patent number: 6341615Abstract: A vacuum purge system is provided to protect the vacuum pump from becoming flooded with liquid that on occasion is purged with vapors from process equipment. The liquid is trapped in a vessel and then evaporated and exhausted through the vacuum pump as vapor. Evaporation of trapped liquid is effected by reducing or stopping the purge stream to the trapping vessel while continuing to operate the vacuum pump, thereby reducing the absolute pressure within the vessel. Evaporation of liquid can also be effected by supplying heat to the trapped vessel, either in cooperation with or instead of the pressure reduction. Use of a programmable logic controller enables a cyclic operation that traps liquid from entering the pump, removes the trapped liquid as vapor, and then resumes normal purge operation.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2000Date of Patent: January 29, 2002Assignee: Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: Robert Sam Zorich, David James Silva
