  • Patent number: 5994603
Abstract: A process is provided for the production of paraxylene by the methylation of toluene in the presence of a zeolite bound zeolite catalyst. The catalyst comprises first zeolite crystals which are bound together by second zeolite crystals. When used to methylate toluene to para-xylene, the zeolite bound zeolite catalyst has a para-xylene selectivity greater than thermodynamic equilibrium. This selectivity can be enhanced by selectivating the catalyst.

  • Patent number: 5981820
Abstract: A process and catalyst for isomerizing olefins are disclosed. The process and catalyst are particularly useful for isomerizing alkenyl bridged ring compounds to the corresponding alkyladiene bridged ring compounds. In one embodiment, the isomerization catalyst comprises an oxygen treated mixture of an alkali metal on a dried support having a surface area of 125 to 195 m.sup.2 /g when the support consists essentially of alumina wherein the alumina precursor is a large crystallite pseudoboehmite. The catalyst is particularly useful for isomerizing 5-vinyl-2-norbornene to 5-ethylidiene-2-norbornene. The catalyst is very active and highly selective and resistant to catalyst poisons. The process contacts the catalyst with an alkenyl bridged ring compound and yields the corresponding alkyladiene bridged ring compound.

  • Patent number: 5972203
Abstract: There is provided catalysts and conversion processes for converting hydrocarbons using the catalysts. The catalysts comprises a first alumino-phosphospho-molecular sieves and a binder comprising a second alumino-phopho-molecular sieves. Exemplary conversion processes include the conversion of oxygenates to olefins, dewaxing, reforming, dealkylation, dehydrogenation, transalkylation, alkylation, and isomerization.

  • Patent number: 5958366
Abstract: Large crystal zeolites are prepared by heating a zeolite synthesis mixture under agitation to a temperature equal to or less than the effective nucleation temperature of the zeolite synthesis mixture and thereafter the zeolite synthesis mixture is heated without agitation to a temperature equal to or greater than the effective nucleation temperature of the zeolite synthesis mixture.

  • Patent number: 5672803
Abstract: A method is provided for selectively producing a trans-geometrical isomer of non-conjugated diolefins. The method comprises treating a starting non-conjugated diolefin isomer or mixture of isomers, a first mono-olefin and a second mono-olefin with a metathesis catalyst under selected reaction conditions to produce a product with greater than 80% trans-geometrical isomer content. In a preferred embodiment, 1,4-hexadiene, ethene, and propene contact a Re.sub.2 O.sub.7 catalyst and are converted to a reaction product mixture with above 80% trans-1,4-hexadiene.
