  • Publication number: 20190010333
Abstract: Kaolin compositions comprising coarse kaolin particles are disclosed herein. The kaolin compositions can include kaolin particles having a GE brightness of at least 78 and a particle size distribution wherein at least 50% by weight of the kaolin particles have an equivalent size diameter (e.s.d.) of 30 ?m or greater. In some embodiments, the kaolin compositions can include kaolin particles having a bimodal particle distribution. In other embodiments, the kaolin compositions can include kaolin particles having a low crystalline silica content, such as a crystalline silica content of 0.1% by weight or less and a particle size distribution wherein at least 50% by weight of the kaolin particles have an equivalent size diameter (e.s.d.) of 15 ?m or greater. In some embodiments, the kaolin particles can be free of crystalline silica. Methods of making and using the kaolin compositions are also disclosed herein.

  • Patent number: 8076445
Abstract: A composition comprising a carbodiimide and a polymer, wherein the carbodiimide comprises a reaction product of a) at least one of an aliphatic C4 to C20 polyisocyanate and an araliphatic C4 to C20 polyisocyanate, b) at least one of a hydroxy carboxylic acid and a hydroxy carboxylic salt, c) optionally, a further compound carrying groups able to react with isocyanate groups in an addition reaction, d) optionally, at least one other isocyanate, and the carbodiimide units being derived essentially exclusively from the isocyanate groups of component a), and the polymer comprises a reaction product of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid and at least one of a (meth)acrylate, a vinyl ester of a carboxylic acid, a vinyl aromatic compound, an ethylenically unsaturated nitrile, a vinyl halide, an aliphatic hydrocarbon, and a free-radically polymerizable monomer. Also, a method of applying the composition on and/or in a substrate.

  • Patent number: 7705082
Abstract: An aqueous latex coating composition and method of making an aqueous latex coating composition that comprises at least one oligomeric ethylene glycol derivative having the structure RO—(CH2—CH2—O—)n—H, at least one latex polymer, and water, wherein R is H or C1-C4 alkyl and preferably H, and n is from 3 to 9, preferably from 3 to 8, and more preferably from 3 to 6. The oligomeric ethylene glycol derivative functions as both a coalescing solvent and freeze-thaw stabilizer without contributing to the VOC content of the composition.

  • Patent number: 6727314
Abstract: A composition comprising a polymer, wherein the polymer comprises at least one of: i) a blend of a first polymer comprising a reaction product of acetoacetoxyethyl (meth)acrylate monomer and a second polymer comprising a reaction product of castor oil (meth)acrylate monomer, and ii) a third polymer comprising a reaction product of acetoacetoxyethyl (meth)acrylate monomer and castor oil (meth)acrylate monomer. These polymer compositions can be cured by at least one of auto-oxidation and actinic radiation. Optionally, at least a portion of the acetoacetoxyethyl (meth)acrylate moieties in the polymer can be converted to a corresponding enamine by reaction with at least one of ammonia and an amine.
