Abstract: A system and method for determining FRC, TGV, TLC, and RV includes a hand-held unit with a shutter assembly designed to minimize measure air displacement due to shuttering. Measurement of flow and pressure are used to derive the lung parameters.

Abstract: According to some embodiments, an Hb level value for a patient may be received from an Hb meter (e.g., a non-invasive Hb meter). Moreover, a DLCO value for the patient may be received from a DLCO analyzer at substantially the same time. A computer may then automatically calculate a predicted Hb value for the patient based on at least one patient parameter (e.g., a patient gender, age, and/or weight). If the predicted Hb value for the patient substantially matches the received Hb level value, the received DLCO value may be output. If the predicted Hb value for the patient does not substantially match the received Hb level value, a corrected DLCO value may be automatically calculated and output.

Abstract: A method for determining at least one instantaneous pulmonary measurement. The method comprises providing a plurality of instantaneous mechanical pulmonary properties of a user in at least one identified respiratory instant during at least one respiration cycle, correlating between the plurality of instantaneous mechanical pulmonary properties, and determining at least one instantaneous pulmonary measurement in at least one identified respiratory instant according to the correlation during the at least one respiration cycle.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a mouthpiece to communicate an airflow between a user and an airflow chamber in fluid communication with the mouthpiece; an interrupter in fluid communication with the airflow chamber and adapted to initiate an occlusion event by adjusting between an open state and a closed state, such that fluid communication is at least partially prevented between the airflow chamber and ambient air during the occlusion event initiated by the interrupter; a container in fluid communication with the airflow chamber; a flow rate sensor in fluid communication with the airflow chamber and adapted to measure an airflow exchange between the airflow chamber and the container during the occlusion event; and a controller adapted to determine an instantaneous lung volume based on the measured airflow exchange between the airflow chamber and the container.
