  • Patent number: 11259034
Abstract: The handling of scalable data streams by network entities is rendered less complex by, in the data stream, accompanying packets which actually carry data by packets of a different packet type which have a scalability axes descriptor defining the number of scalability axes and a semantic meaning thereof. In another aspect, the handling of scalable data streams by network entities is rendered more efficient by conveying level and/or profile descriptors using packets other than the data carrying packets, with profile and/or level descriptors being divided up into a first set explicitly signaling the definition of the available coding option set and/or available syntax element value range for a respective operation point, and a second set of profile and/or level descriptors which signal the definition of the available coding option set and/or available syntax element value range for their respective operation points by reference another profile and/or level descriptor.

  • Patent number: 11252422
Abstract: A number of negatively affected (correctly received) packets due to packet loss is reduced by providing, and analyzing, error resilience in the packets of the sequence of packets and identifying, for each of runs of one or more lost packets of the sequence of packets, a first packet in the sequence of packets after the respective run of one or more lost packets, which carries a beginning of any of the tiles of the video data stream, and concurrently carries a slice, the slice header of which is contained in any of the packets of the sequence of packets not being lost. In particular, the side information overhead for transmitting the error resilience data is comparatively low compared to the reduction in negatively affected packets due to packet loss.

  • Patent number: 11245898
Abstract: Sub-picture extraction is rendered less complex by providing each slice with start position information which indicates a starting position from which onwards the picture is, along a coding path, encoded into the respective slice, relative to an onset position at which the coding path starts traversing a segment the starting position is located in. Alternatively or additionally, sub-picture extraction processes are treated like choosing one layer out of a multi-layer datastream.

  • Patent number: 11212542
Abstract: A video data stream is rendered reducible in a manner so that the reduction leads to a restriction of pictures of the reduced video data stream to merely a predetermined subarea of the pictures of the original video data stream and in a manner so that transcoding, such as re-quantization, may be avoided and a conformance of the reduced video data stream relative to the codec underlying the original video data stream be maintained. This is achieved by providing the video data stream with information including an indication of the predetermined subarea and replacement indices for redirecting the indices included by the payload portion so as to refer to, and/or replacement parameters for adjusting the first set of coding parameter settings so as to result in, a second set of coding parameter settings.

  • Publication number: 20210392353
Abstract: A video data stream having a video encoded thereinto and is described. It includes first timing information on first coded picture buffer, CPB, removal times to be applied at decoder side in case of buffering a complete version of the video data stream, and second timing information on second CPB removal times to be applied at decoder side for buffering a reduced version of the video data stream, differing from the video data stream by removal of a portion of the video data stream from the complete version of the video data stream. Corresponding video encoders, video decoders, network nodes, apparatuses for managing the coded picture buffer, CPB, of a video decoder, and apparatuses for splicing together video data streams are also referred to.

  • Publication number: 20210306646
Abstract: Scalable coding concepts are described. One aspect improves parallel decoding of inter-dependent layers of a multi-layer video data stream by introducing a long-term syntax element structure for guaranteeing that during a predetermined time period the pictures of the dependent layer are subdivided so that borders of the spatial segments of the pictures of the second layer and the spatial segments of the first layer overlay. Another aspect concerns upsampling from base layer to enhancement layer. Another aspect introduces a long-term syntax element structure allowing the decoder to determine the inter-layer offset for a predetermined time period. Another aspect introduces a type indicator field changing a way a layer indicator field within the NAL unit headers is to be interpreted. Another aspect allows different codecs/standards to be used for the different layers. Another aspect concerns a syntax element structure which indicates the inter-layer offset in units of the base layer blocks.
