  • Publication number: 20210134164
Abstract: A visualization assistance system for providing visual assistance to flight crew on an ownship aircraft is provided. The visualization assistance system comprises a controller configured to: receive a designation of a target aircraft for the ownship aircraft to follow requiring execution of a turn to join a track behind the target aircraft; receive flight crew specified spacing information comprising a minimum separation level to be maintained between the designated target aircraft and the ownship aircraft; predict an amount of travel for the ownship aircraft before commencing the turn that after completion joins the ownship aircraft at a joining point to the track behind the target aircraft and maintains the specified minimum separation level; and cause the predicted amount of travel to be graphically displayed on a flight deck display for use by the flight crew when determining when to initiate the turn to join the track behind the target aircraft.

  • Patent number: 10916149
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for optimizing aircraft operations using uplink weather data to identify predicted turbulent conditions. The method comprises uploading current weather data to a flight management system (FMS) of an aircraft. Areas of turbulence are identified according to the uploaded weather data including areas of turbulence along the client flight trajectory stored in the FMS of the aircraft. An optimal turbulence penetration speed is planned for each identified area of turbulence. The estimated time of arrival (ETA) and minimum and maximum estimate time of arrival (ETA min/max) for the aircraft is recalculated based on the optimal turbulence penetration speeds. The recalculated ETA and ETA min/max is automatically transmitted to an air traffic control (ATC) authority with the FMS of the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 10304344
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for generating a route that facilitates navigating a vehicle to a diversion destination while satisfying applicable safety thresholds or other constraints, such as a maximum landing weight. One exemplary method of facilitating an aircraft landing at a diversion airport involves obtaining a current position of the aircraft, identifying a landing threshold influenced by a characteristic of the aircraft, obtaining one or more constraints associating with diverting to the diversion airport, and determining a route from the current position to the diversion airport based at least in part on the landing threshold and the one or more constraints. The route satisfies the constraints and results in a predicted value for the aircraft, e.g., a predicted aircraft landing weight, that satisfies the landing threshold. A graphical representation of the route is displayed on a display device onboard the aircraft.

  • Patent number: 10134289
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for guiding or otherwise assisting operation of a vehicle to intersect a stabilized approach to a destination. One exemplary method of assisting an aircraft for landing at an airport involves obtaining, from a system onboard the aircraft, a current position of the aircraft and a current velocity of the aircraft, determining a descent strategy for the aircraft from the current position to an initialization point for a stable approach to the airport based at least in part on the current position and the current velocity, and providing indication of the descent strategy on a display device. The descent strategy is determined based on one or more validation criteria associated with the initialization point so that one or more predicted values for one or more characteristics of the aircraft satisfy the one or more validation criteria at the initialization point.

  • Patent number: 10102760
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a system includes a receiver configured to receive audio data from a vehicle. In some examples, the system includes processing circuitry configured to determine an expected maneuver for the vehicle based on the audio data. In some examples, the processing circuitry is further configured to determine whether to output an alert based on the expected maneuver determined from the audio data.

  • Patent number: 9640079
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for generating an interim route that facilitates navigating a vehicle to an intended destination. One exemplary method facilitating an aircraft landing at an intended destination involves obtaining a current position of the aircraft, obtaining one or more time constraints for the intended destination, determining an interim route from the current aircraft position to the intended destination that veers towards a conditional diversion destination based at least in part on the one or more time constraints for the intended destination, and providing indication of the interim route to an aircraft operator, for example, by displaying a graphical representation of the interim route on a navigational map on a display device.
