Abstract: A method for separating bristle bundles (5) from a supply (10) of loose bristle filaments (11) is provided, in which a bundle separator (13) having a separating notch (14) is moved in a separating movement past the supply (10) of loose bristle filaments (11), in the process separating a bristle bundle (5) from the supply (10) which makes its way into the separating notch (14). When the separating movement is carried out, the separating notch (14) changes its direction of movement in a separating region (16) on the supply (10) at least twice, preferably at least thrice.

Abstract: To improve the brush-making field, a tuft-picking device (4) is provided, which includes the tuft picker (8) that is movable in relation to the material box (2) of the brush-making machine (1) and, on its front side (11), which in the operating position faces the bristle supply (3) held in the material box (2), includes at least one tuft-picking notch (12). The tuft-picking notch (12) has two opposing knife edges (14, 15), which delimit the notch opening (13) of the tuft-picking notch (12) and are oriented transverse to the direction of movement of the tuft picker (8). Another part of the tuft-picking device (4) is the counter piece (9), which is provided with the separating edge (17) facing the tuft picker (8). In order to allow bristle filaments (16) to be removed from the bristle supply (4) as gently as possible, at least one of the two knife edges (14, 15) and/or the separating edge (17) is rounded.

The tufting tool has a tool head displaceable along the tufting axis between a receiving and a tufting position. The tool head has two guide jaws which are displaceable relative to each other during displacement of the tool head. To relatively displace the guide jaws, the tool has a reversing lever connected to the tool head and a deflecting guide for the reversing lever, arranged at an angle of deflection with respect to the tufting axis. The guide jaws are coupled together via the reversing lever in such a manner and the reversing lever is guided such that an adjustment of the tool head into the tufting position advances one guide jaw in the tufting direction and retracts the other guide jaw counter to the tufting direction.

At least one of the gripping jaws (2) includes several fingers (3), arranged side-by-side in reference to each other with each being individually adjustable against a restoring force, approximately in an opening and closing direction. The gripping jaws (2) are each embodied in one piece with their respective fingers.
