    Abstract: A data dictionary generation system automatically populates and updates a data dictionary for listings offering shared data. A data dictionary includes metadata describing the shared data, including the individual objects, such as the individual tables, schemas, views, and functions. The shared data and each individual data object may be described in the data dictionary by a set of data fields that corresponds to the shared dataset or the object type of the individual object. The data dictionary can be presented to data consumers along with the description of the listing to provide data consumers with a comprehensive description of the shared data provided by a listing, including a high-level summary of the shared data and description of each individual object included in the shared data. The data dictionary allows data consumers to understand the contents of the shared data and how to use the shared data.

    Abstract: A method and structure for the distribution and utilization of synchronization within an asynchronous network is described herein. Synchronization is distributed through an asynchronous network via a synchronization symbol periodically inserted on the MAC layer. The priority of this symbol ensures that this symbol is inserted in the MAC layer data stream ahead of all other types of symbols. The insertion of the synchronization symbol in the middle of an ongoing data frame is supported. In addition, a method for synchronization symbol distribution throughout an asynchronous network is presented, along with a method for switching to a new synchronization path (in the event of loss of original synchronization path) based on minimum number of hops from the synchronization source.

The architecture supports transport of both connectionless packetized data and framed data from synchronous leased lines. The architecture supports transparent packetization of incoming DS1 data. The architecture works for mesh architectures but is optimized for OSI Layer 1 (crossconnect) and Layer 2 (Virtual LAN, or VLAN) services and for ring topologies, since for these services in a ring no path setup is required using a label distribution protocol. In addition, it simultaneously supports OSI Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3 services.

    Abstract: A Fourier transform NMR spectrometer incorporates a digital acquisition processor which provides a sequence of gating states specifying properties of the excitation, decoupling, and homogeneity spoiling pulses, lock channel operation and the like. Each gating state, together with the selected persistance time for the corresponding state, occupies one of a sequence of words supplied by the acquisition processor to a FIFO buffer. Timing control means, initialized from the persistance time portion of the current FIFO word, determines the time interval during which said gating state information is available at an output port, after which the next sequential FIFO word is advanced to the output port. NMR response is accumulated and averaged in a dual port fast semiconductor memory. The semiconductor memory is independently accessible to a host computer through a direct memory port.
