Patent number: 9033273Abstract: An aircraft ground control system that moves an aircraft on the ground between landing and take off without external mechanical assistance from airport tugs or tow vehicles or reliance on thrust produced by the aircraft's engines is provided. The aircraft ground control system interfaces only with an aircraft auxiliary power unit or other aircraft power supply, but otherwise operates independently of aircraft systems. A system integrator and controller links cockpit controls designed to actuate the transmission of power to system components and to activate system components only under predetermined conditions with selectively activatable drivers in driving connection with one or more aircraft wheels to move the aircraft on the ground at selected torques and speeds.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2011Date of Patent: May 19, 2015Inventors: Jonathan Edelson, Neal Gilleran, Isaiah Cox, Scott Perkins, Robert Sweet

Patent number: 9022316Abstract: A failsafe system and method for ensuring the safe operation of an aircraft with a ground movement system to drive the aircraft independently on the ground is provided. The system includes at least one aircraft nose or main drive wheel powered by an onboard wheel driver responsive to sensed aircraft and ground movement system operating parameters to continue operation in response to parameters within normal limits or to prevent continued operation if sensed parameters are outside normal limits and indicate continued operation to be unsafe. The onboard wheel driver includes a locking assembly responsive automatically or manually to signals indicating sensed parameters to lock the onboard wheel driver in an activated or an inactivated condition, depending on whether operation of the ground movement system can be continued safely.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2011Date of Patent: May 5, 2015Assignee: Borealis Technical LimitedInventors: Neal Gilleran, Robert Sweet, Jonathan Edelson, Isaiah Watas Cox

Patent number: 8833694Abstract: A split circumference wheel assembly is provided for an aircraft landing gear wheel configured to maximize the space available within a landing gear wheel well to support a motor driver assembly with drive means that drives the aircraft wheel on the ground. The split circumference wheel assembly includes separable inboard and outboard support walls that are spaced axially apart a maximized distance so that the motor driver assembly is completely contained within the maximized space defined. A preferred wheel assembly employs a demountable flange and a locking ring to integrally and removably support the motor driver assembly within the maximized wheel volume to drive one or more aircraft wheels and move the aircraft independently on the ground. The wheel and motor driver assembly described herein are designed to be retrofitted in an existing aircraft wheel.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2012Date of Patent: September 16, 2014Inventors: Neal Gilleran, Robert Sweet, Scott Perkins

Patent number: 7893457Abstract: A semiconductor device includes at least one cell including a base region of a first conductivity type having disposed therein at least one emitter region of a second conductivity type, a first well region of a second conductivity type, a second well region of a first conductivity type, a drift region of a second conductivity type, a collector region of a first conductivity type, and a collector contact. Each cell is disposed within the first well region, and the first well region is disposed within the second well region. The device further includes a first gate in communication with a base region so that a MOSFET channel can be formed between an emitter region and the first well region, and at least one embedded region embedded in the first well region. The device is configured such that during operation of the device a depletion region at a junction between the base region and the first well region can extend to a junction between the first well region and the second well region.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2005Date of Patent: February 22, 2011Assignee: ECO Semiconductors Ltd.Inventors: Sankara Narayanan Ekkanath Madathil, Mark Robert Sweet, Konstantin Vladislavovich Vershinin

Publication number: 20090208143Abstract: A scanning fiber endoscope (SFE) disposed at the distal end of a flexible, small diameter imaging probe is inserted through a relatively small opening and into a larger volume, such as the bladder. Actuators disposed adjacent to the distal end of the imaging probe are selectively activated to bend the distal end of the imaging probe to assist in positioning and orienting the SFE at a plurality of points selected to image substantially all of at least a desired portion of the interior surface of the volume. The insertion depth, bending arc, and rotational position of the imaging probe can be manually and/or automatically controlled. The user can inspect the images to determine if a desired portion of the surface has been imaged and can thus ensure that a tumor or other characteristic of the surface is not overlooked due to a failure to image it.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 19, 2008Publication date: August 20, 2009Applicant: University of WashingtonInventors: Woon Jong Yoon, Eric Seibel, Robert Sweet, Per Reinhall

Patent number: 4223603Abstract: A planetary inker for an offset printing press which uses only a single ink form roller but is substantially ghost free. A unique arrangement of distributor rollers operably associated with the form roller are present in sufficient number and of relative diameters with respect to each other and to the form roller to assure complete smoothing out of ink supplied to the form roller in conjunction with total elimination of all plate-derived latent images on the surface of the form roller before recontacting the plate on the plate cylinder. Especially efficient transfer of ink from the supply fountain to a drum roller in rolling contact with the form roller ahead of the distributor rollers is obtained in a preferred embodiment by the use of a pair of ink transfer ductors which are alternately intermittently shifted into engagement with the fountain ink ball and then the form roller vibrator. The relative time of engagement of the ductors with the ball and the vibrator may be selectively varied by the operator.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1979Date of Patent: September 23, 1980Assignee: Didde-Glaser, Inc.Inventors: Terry N.
