  • Patent number: 5170008
Abstract: A grommet provides a surrounding conductive elastomer connection to a stripped portion of an external cable shield. The cable is inserted through the central passage of the grommet and placed in a U-shaped opening in an enclosure frame. The open side of the U is closed with another metal member to complete a 360 degree termination around the shield. A one piece metal band within the grommet provides a direct low resistance path from the cable shield to the enclosure frame. The band has an interference fit in the outer groove of the grommet and utilizes the elasticity of the grommet to hold the band in place.

  • Patent number: 4696344
Abstract: An annulus pressure operated ratchet device for use in a well bore. A mandrel includes an upwardly-directed elastomeric cup which is slidingly received over the mandrel. A sleeve is slidingly received over the mandrel beneath the cup and a ratchet disposed between the sleeve and the mandrel permits only downward movement of the sleeve. An elastomeric packer is received about the mandrel between the sleeve and an upwardly-directed shoulder. Annulus pressure urges the cup and sleeve downwardly to compress the packer thereby sealingly engaging it with the casing. The shoulder beneath the packer is threadably engaged with the mandrel by a left-hand thread. Right-hand mandrel rotation unthreads the connection thereby releasing the packer.

  • Patent number: 4646829
Abstract: A bridge plug apparatus includes a mandrel assembly having an operating fluid passageway disposed therein. A releasable coupling assembly has an upper end adapted to be connected to a tubing string and has a lower portion adapted to be releasably connected to the mandrel assembly. An annular packer is disposed about the mandrel assembly. A mechanical first slip assembly is connected to the mandrel assembly below the packer. A hydraulic second slip assembly is connected to the mandrel assembly above the packer. A power piston is disposed about the mandrel assembly for longitudinally compressing and radially expanding the packer to seal the packer in response to an increase in fluid pressure within the operating fluid passageway of the mandrel assembly. A hydraulically actuatable releasing device is provided for releasing a latched connection between the coupling assembly and the mandrel assembly. This releasing device is defined upon a power sleeve slidably disposed about the mandrel assembly.

  • Patent number: 4405201
Abstract: A fiber optic connector couples multiple pairs of single fiber, fiber optic transmission lines. The connector includes identical sub-assemblies releasably coupled. Each sub-assembly has a plurality of holders to which the ends of the fibers are connected. Each holder has a plug and a receptacle fitted into corresponding elements on an aligned holder so as to position the ends of mating fibers in axial alignment for efficient transmission of light energy therebetween. The holders are mounted in a loose arrangement and an elastomeric pad or cushion suspends mated holders. Excessive coupling forces are transmitted through the housings directly and do not affect the holders and fibers carried thereby.

  • Patent number: 4312564
Abstract: A multi-fiber optic connector is provided having a plurality of receptacles in a first housing each of which carries a single fiber optic centered therein. Each receptacle includes a smaller diameter guidance means. The second housing includes a like plurality of flexible male members having a single fiber optic centered therein, one opposite each of said receptacles. Each flexible male member has a tapered surface area located to cooperate with the smaller diameter guidance means in said receptacle to guide and bend the flexible male member to center it within said receptacle so that the fiber centered in said receptacle and the fiber centered in said male member meet coaxially in a plane vertical to the axes when the housings are mated. The fibers are held in the receptacle and in the flexible male member by a three beam configuration which is made of resilient material so that different size fibers will be held concentrically.

  • Patent number: 4278130
Abstract: An access valve for communicating a wire line pressure sensing probe with a subsurface formation of a well to conduct continuously monitored shut in pressure tests on said subsurface formation. The access valve includes a tubular body having a cylindrical inner surface. A first passage communicates the subsurface formation with the cylindrical inner surface of the tubular body. A sliding valve sleeve has a cylindrical outer surface slidably received in said cylindrical inner surface of said tubular body, and has a valve sleeve port disposed through a side wall thereof communicating said cylindrical outer surface of said sliding valve sleeve with a cylindrical inner surface of said sliding valve sleeve. The sliding valve sleeve is slidable between a closed position wherein the valve sleeve port is in fluid isolation from the first passage, and an open position wherein the valve sleeve port is in fluid communication with the first passage.

  • Patent number: 4113012
Abstract: Disclosed is a circulation valve for use in the testing of an oil well wherein the circulation valve may be reclosed by application of well annulus pressure to allow a subsequent treating or testing program. A spring means is subjected to well annulus pressure on two ends of a volume of fluid. The volume of fluid is divided by a dividing means which includes pressure relief means such that fluid on one side of the dividing means is either higher or lower than the well annulus pressure. This different pressure is applied to one set of a piston means, and the other side of the piston means is subject to well annulus pressure such that movement of the piston means may be controlled by changing the well annulus pressure. An indexing means is additionally disclosed which controls opening of the circulation valve after a selected number of piston means movements, and which closes the circulation valve upon a selected movement of said piston means when the circulation valve is in the open condition.

  • Patent number: 3976136
Abstract: In a well testing tool having a spring whose biasing force is supplemented by the hydrostatic pressure in the well annulus at the testing depth, a method and apparatus for isolating the spring from the pressure in the well annulus utilizing the pressure differential between the well annulus and the testing tool bore which exists after the formation is isolated. An insolation valve is provided whose closing force is generated by isolating the testing tool bore from the well annulus, and then increasing the well annulus pressure above the hydrostatic pressure. The pressure differential thus created is utilized to close the valve. The opening force is generated by compressing a spring as the valve is closed. Thus, an isolation valve is provided which is normally open and which closes only after the well annulus pressure exceeds a reference pressure trapped in the bore of the testing tool by a predetermined amount.
