Publication number: 20190033476Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for demonstrating a completely new statistical association between earthquake events, for determining spatially-dependent increases in risk levels following a primary earthquake event, and for generating and disseminating alerts accordingly. A time window after a primary earthquake event is chosen. Observed earthquakes within the time window are compared with baseline rates of earthquake events. The observed events are statistically analyzed against pure chance to determine a statistical association between primary earthquakes and follow-on earthquakes. Increases in earthquake risk are determined for multiple spatial zones. Responsive to a primary event, spatially dependent probabilities of a follow-on earthquake, or risk increases, are determined and used to generate and disseminate corresponding alerts. A system comprising seismic sensors, a computing apparatus, and subscriber nodes is described. Variants are disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2018Publication date: January 31, 2019Applicant: Oregon State UniversityInventors: Robert T. O'Malley, Debashis Mondal

Patent number: 9113798Abstract: A substantially X-ray transparent animal restraint enclosure having an open base structure and a lid which is configured to substantially close the base structure. The lid is movable from a closed position to an open position to permit the introduction of an animal into the base structure. The base structure has an open-ended slot which is partially obstructed when the lid is closed. The base structure also has an aperture which is not obstructed by the lid. A veterinary CT scan apparatus includes a CT scan gantry or sensor ring, a CT scan table, and a substantially X-ray transparent animal restraint enclosure. A method of performing a CT scan on an animal in a CT scan apparatus having a patient target position is achieved by placing the animal in substantially X-ray transparent enclosure; placing the enclosure in the patient target position for the CT scan; and conducting the CT scan.Type: GrantFiled: June 28, 2011Date of Patent: August 25, 2015Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the University of IllinoisInventors: Robert T. Patent number: 9021612Abstract: Body armor includes a panel having a front, an opposed back, left and right sides, top and bottom, and a vertical axis extending through the panel at a location intermediate between the right and left sides. Opposed right and left shoulder cuts are formed in the panel between the right side and the top and between the left side and the top, and the right and left shoulder cuts are asymmetric to each other about the vertical axis. The right and left shoulder cuts are linear edges formed diagonally between the left and right sides and the top, and the right shoulder cut extends further inboard into the panel toward the vertical axis than the left shoulder cut.Type: GrantFiled: July 17, 2013Date of Patent: May 5, 2015Assignee: Armored Republic LLCInventor: Robert T O'Neal
