  • Patent number: 11406492
Abstract: Typically, surgical intervention is required to remedy abnormalities of the vocal cords. However, surgical intervention often causes a laryngeal web, or glottic web, to form which impairs the sound quality of the vocal cords. The prosthesis and methods of the invention effectively eliminate regrowth of a laryngeal web after surgery over all other prior art devices and methodologies. During the operative procedure, the prosthesis may be inserted through a surgically created hole in a laryngeal web allowing a laryngeal bridge to assist in holding the prosthesis in position. Following surgery, after the vocal cords heal, the prosthesis may then be removed, and the laryngeal bridge also removed. In the case of an anterior procedure, the prosthesis produces a sharp anterior commissure without any glottic web. The prosthesis and method greatly reduce the recurrence of a laryngeal web.

  • Patent number: 9700408
Abstract: An adjustable thyroplasty implant comprising at least one inflatable bladder to apply pressure against the vocal folds to adjust vocal medialization easily in the operating room. The implant may contain at least one injection port corresponding with each bladder for injection of a substance into each bladder using a standard syringe. The implant allows for easy adjustment during initial thyroplasty surgery. Further, the implant permits easy adjustment of the implant after surgery by injection or withdraw of the substance within the bladder utilizing a syringe without the need for additional surgery. The implant may contain a means of detecting a means of detecting the injection port post-surgery using x-ray or fluoroscopic examination.

  • Publication number: 20120174415
Abstract: The present invention has been accomplished to provide cost effective scissor sizer devices that can be used to adjust the size of finger openings on scissors. The sizer may be of a pre-determined size or may be malleable so as to conform to the shape of the scissor handle opening to provide a more secure fit of the sizer with the handle. The sizer may be smooth on its inner surface or may have rough areas on its inner surface in order to help prevent the fingers of the user from slipping within the handle openings. The sizer may be secured to the scissor handle openings by various means. Means of attachment include use of bendable tabs capable of being bent to grasp and fit to the handle opening. The sizer may also be attached using screws to secure the sizer to the handle opening. The sizer may also contain a ratchet mechanism to secure the sizer to the handle. Further, the sizer may be permanently affixed, by glue or some other means of permanent attachment, to the handle opening.
