Patent number: 9340330Abstract: The invention is directed to storage containers and lids for storage containers which provide for a secure closure and a storage container which is airtight and leakproof. The lid includes a generally U-shaped closure made of a plastic material for securing to a container base; a center window also made of a plastic material and preferably the same as the U-shaped closure; and a thermoplastic material which provides for a sealing gasket on the underside of the U-shaped closure for mating with the container base and a perimeter seal on the outside of the U-shaped closure and around the outer circumference of the center window. The lid may further include a gripping tab made at least in part of thermoplastic material in the lid corner for opening or closing the container, and wings made of a thermoplastic material in one or more portions or corners of the lid.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2010Date of Patent: May 17, 2016Assignee: S. Patent number: 7438279Abstract: A pulling tool for pulling nails, screws, rivets, pegs, or other protrusions includes a jaw which may be opened to receive the head of the protrusion. The jaw is then at least partially closed against the protrusion, and when the handle of the tool is pulled, the jaw is both urged shut and also away from the surface from which the protrusion extends. Thus, as the protrusion is pulled, its shaft is also more tightly grasped, which helps to pull the protrusion from the surface without stripping off its head/cap. The pulling tool can be provided as a part of a hammer, crowbar, or other conventional tool.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2007Date of Patent: October 21, 2008Assignee: Halvor, Inc.Inventors: Eric H. Eby, Rick Parduhn, Robert T. Schofield, James C. Boda

Publication number: 20020040528Abstract: A tool for performing lopping, pruning and similar operations includes a tool support, a tool head, an actuating line and an actuating handle. The tool support preferably includes a pair of telescoping tubes and the tool head includes a blade movable to perform cutting operations. The blade is coupled to the actuating line and remotely movable by tensioning the actuating line. The actuating line passes through a portion of the tool support to the actuating handle. The actuating handle includes a line engagement mechanism or clutch assembly that engages and holds the line when the actuating handle is slid on the tool support. The tool is actuated by a first movement of the actuating handle that causes the engagement mechanism to engage the actuating line, followed by a second movement that tensions the line to move the blade. A reel mechanism below the engagement mechanism collects the actuating line when the tool support is retracted and dispenses line when the tool support is extended.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 12, 2001Publication date: April 11, 2002Inventors: Robert T. Schofield, Ernest D. Labarre

Patent number: 6257346Abstract: A device for removing weeds from the ground comprises an elongated shaft, a handle mounted to an upper end of the shaft, a pair of blades mounted for opposed pivotal movement at a lower end of the shaft, and a plunger. Each blade has an upper section located above a pivot point of the blade and a lower section located below the pivot point. The plunger is mounted for reciprocal sliding movement between an extended position intermediate the lower sections of the blades and a retracted position intermediate the upper sections of the blades. The plunger and the upper sections of the blades include cam surfaces configured such that movement of the plunger from the extended position to the retracted position forces the upper sections of the blades away from one another, whereby tips of the blades are forced to converge towards one another to capture the weed and accompanying root structure. The weed and surrounding soil plug can be released by squeezing a hand-lever.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1999Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Assignee: Alterra Holding CorporationInventors: Robert T. Schofield, Paul A. Schneider

Patent number: 5601006Abstract: A punch tool for use by children is disclosed. The punch tool includes a removable die and punch assembly that can be inserted and removed from a base portion to permit the punching of holes having a variety of configurations. A cap is rigidly secured to the base and has an indented portion so sheets of paper can be inserted between the base and the cap. The retainer cap includes an opening in which an actuator button is slidably mounted and against which the punch is biased by a spring. Thus, a user can slide a sheet of paper between the base and the retainer cap and punch a hole therethrough by pressing the actuator button with sufficient force to overcome the spring bias.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1994Date of Patent: February 11, 1997Assignee: Fiskars Inc.Inventors: Charles Quinn, Robert T. Schofield

Patent number: 5377412Abstract: A soft touch scissors including a first or lower blade assembly having a handle and a blade having a tang molded in the handle and a second or upper handle assembly having a handle and a blade having a tang molded in the handle, the blade assemblies being pivotally connected, and biased by a spring to an open position, a rib on the top of the lower handle assembly and a rib on the bottom of the upper handle assembly located in a position to engage the rib on the lower handle assembly and a latch slidably mounted on the upper handle assembly for movement into engagement with the rib on the lower handle assembly to lock the handle assemblies in a closed position.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1992Date of Patent: January 3, 1995Assignee: Fiskars Oy AbInventors: Robert T. Schofield, Craig H. Melter, Douglas J. Birkholz
