Patent number: 11918519Abstract: Several solutions are described for making it easier to move a surgical robotics patient table, either from rest or to turn it. The table has a base, a support, and a table top on which the patient is supported. A number of casters are mounted to a body of the base. In one case, controllable jacks lift the body to release the casters thereby allowing them to swivel to a desired orientation. In another case, a drive assembly is rotatably coupled to the body of the base and includes an electric drive motor and a drive wheel to drive the table across the floor. Other aspects are also described and claimed.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2020Date of Patent: March 5, 2024Assignee: Verb Surgical Inc.Inventors: Karen Shakespear Koenig, Pablo Garcia Kilroy, Richard W. Patent number: 11478329Abstract: A surgical robotic system that includes a surgical table that is configured to hold a patient and a magnetic latch. The magnetic latch has a ferromagnetic plate, a permanent magnet that produces a first magnetic field and that attracts the ferromagnetic plate to thereby couple a robotic arm to the surgical table, and a cancelling coil, which when energized, produces a second magnetic field that opposes the first magnetic field to thereby uncouple the robotic arm from the surgical table.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2020Date of Patent: October 25, 2022Assignees: Verb Surgical Inc., Maquet GmbHInventors: Jacob S. Gee, Robert T. Wiggers

Patent number: 11179215Abstract: Some embodiments described herein relate to an arm cart operable to transport a robotic arm to and/or from a surgical table. The robotic arm can be coupled to the arm cart via a connector. The connector can be slideably mounted to the arm cart such that the connector and the robotic arm, collectively, can move relative to the arm cart. For example, when the arm cart is adjacent to the surgical table, the connector and the robotic arm can be movable to provide final, fine adjustments to align the robotic arm with a coupling portion of the surgical table.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2019Date of Patent: November 23, 2021Assignee: VERB SURGICAL INC.Inventor: Robert T. Patent number: 10034721Abstract: Apparatuses and methods described herein relate to arm carts for transporting and coupling a robotic arm to a surgical table. In some embodiments, an arm cart may include a damping mechanism (e.g., a spring, a dashpot) configured to damp an impact force imparted to the robotic arm due to the arm contacting another object, such as a surgical table. In other embodiments, an arm cart may include a backstop with an inclined surface configured to damp an impact force imparted to the robotic arm. In other embodiments, the arm cart may include a compliant arm support that is bendable to damp an impact force imparted to a robotic arm. In some embodiments, the arm cart may include a damping mechanism configured to move from an extended position to a retracted position to permit a robotic arm to couple to a surgical table.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2017Date of Patent: July 31, 2018Assignee: Verb Surgical Inc.Inventors: Richard William Timm, Seung Mo Lim, Robert T. Patent number: 9925394Abstract: In a method of detecting the health of a motion axis in a radiation system including a motor operable to move a load between a first end and a second end, data on an electrical parameter of the motor is collected as the motor moves in the certain range. At least one indicator of the electrical parameter including a maximum, a minimum, an average, and a standard deviation of the electrical parameter is determined and compared with a provided value or range of values indicative of the health of the axis. The health of the motion axis is determined using the comparison of the at least one indicator and the provided value or range of values.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2011Date of Patent: March 27, 2018Assignee: Varian Medical Systems, Inc.Inventor: Robert T. Patent number: 8966686Abstract: A couch top includes a top, a base, a universal joint coupling the top and the base, and actuators mounted on the base to pitch and roll the top. Feedback devices may be fitted on the rotating ends of the universal joint to provide feedback for a control loop. Each actuator has an actuated end that translates vertically to lift or lower the top. The vertical movement may be derived from a carriage riding in place on a translating inclined plane. When the actuated ends move in the same direction, they pitch the top. When the actuated ends move in the opposite directions, they roll the top. Feedback devices may be fitted on motors in the actuators to provide feedback for the control loop.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2011Date of Patent: March 3, 2015Assignees: Varian Medical Systems, Inc., Varian Medical Systems International AGInventors: Robert T.
