Publication number: 20230139514Abstract: A method for managing an energy system having one or more renewable energy sources, one or more energy storage devices, one or more loads, and a grid connection for connecting at least temporarily to an external energy distribution grid is disclosed. The method generates a prediction of energy demand of the loads using historical energy demand data, and a prediction of renewable energy availability from the renewable energy sources using weather forecast data. An amount of energy to be obtained from the distribution grid is determined in dependence on the prediction of renewable energy availability and the prediction of energy demand. An energy conservation strategy is generated using the predictions and determined energy amount, and energy supplied to one or more of the energy storage devices and/or one or more of the loads is adjusted automatically according to the energy conservation strategy.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 18, 2021Publication date: May 4, 2023Applicant: CONDUCTIFY LIMITEDInventor: Robert TENNANT

Publication number: 20070235531Abstract: A convertible self-checkout system includes a base and a stand rotatably mounted to the base. The stand includes an input/output device facing in a first direction and a product scanner, and the stand is positionable relative to the base in at least a first angular position and a second angular position. The input/output device is an interactive video display, and the interactive video display has a first mode corresponding to the first angular position and a second mode corresponding to the second angular position. A sensor determines an angular position of the stand relative to the base and communicates the angular position to the interactive video display. The stand further includes a video display facing in a second direction substantially opposite from the first direction.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2006Publication date: October 11, 2007Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Danny Addison, Richard Harris, Robert Myers, Thomas Sluchak, Robert Tennant

Publication number: 20070125849Abstract: The present invention provides a checkout system with a change dispensing system for providing change in respect of a payment made for goods being purchased. The change dispensing system comprises a receptacle into which change is deposited and the receptacle is mounted in a counter surface of the checkout system where it is in easy view of the customer and where change which accidentally exits from the receptacle is likely to remain on the counter surface and not fall to the floor. Preferably a coin dispensing system is mounted in the checkout system above the counter and a channel guides coins from the change dispensing system to the receptacle under the force of gravity.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 5, 2005Publication date: June 7, 2007Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Danny Addison, Richard Harris, Michael Lee, Robert Myers, Robert Tennant

Publication number: 20070051561Abstract: The present invention provides a checkout system which comprises an item accumulation (bagging) area which is partitioned into two or more sections using a flexible divider. The flexible divider extends from the entry zone of the accumulation area to a point on the boundary of the accumulation zone, but is longer than required to achieve this. When items are introduced into one section of the bagging area, if the items push against the flexible divider, for example due to weight of numbers, the divider flexes into the other section thereby making more space available in the current section for the items. Optionally the flexible divider is movable between two positions in the entry zone such that it further acts as a diverter for diverting items into one or other of the two sections and preferably a motor is used to automatically perform the movement.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2005Publication date: March 8, 2007Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Richard Harris, Brian Leonard, Robert Tennant
