  • Patent number: 6954861
Abstract: An authorized client communication system seeking access to a host communication system may be identified by locating a memory segment within the client communication system that stores client software used to access the host computer system. The memory segment then is examined to determine whether the client software stored in the memory segment corresponds to client software for an official client communication system. Communications from the client communication system are terminated when the client software in the memory segment is determined to diverge from software for an official client communication system.

  • Patent number: 6952945
Abstract: A method for analyzing a gas sample is described. The method comprises providing a gas sample, increasing pressure applied to the gas sample to compress the sample to a smaller volume and provide a pneumatically focused gas sample, and analyzing the pneumatically focused gas sample using any of a variety of analytical techniques. Pneumatic Focusing generally means increasing the pressure of the sample, column or cell to a pressure of from about 100 psi to about 15,000 psi, more typically from about 200 psi to about 2,000 psi. Examples including gas chromatography and absorption spectroscopy are illustrated herein. Numerous other examples could be given. The method is well suited for analyzing gaseous samples, such as ambient air samples, both continuously, and remotely, using computer control. Continuously sampling ambient air provides a method for real-time monitoring of air quality. Continuous monitoring allows for pollutant exposure and allows for the identification of emission sources.

  • Patent number: 6953324
Abstract: A stabilizing structure for a throw adjusting eccentric cam in a two-stage reciprocating compressor is provided. The compressor includes a block that has at least one cylinder with an associated compression chamber and piston, a crankshaft that includes an eccentric crankpin, and a reversible motor for rotating the crankshaft in a forward and a reverse direction. An eccentric, two position cam is rotatably mounted over the crankpin. The cam rotates to and operates at a first position relative to said crankpin when the motor is running in the forward direction and rotates to and operates at a second position relative to said crankpin when the motor is running in the reverse direction. The combined eccentricities of the crankpin and the cam cause the piston to have a first stroke when the motor operates in the forward direction and a second stroke when the motor operates in the reverse direction.

  • Patent number: 6954204
Abstract: A programmable graphics system and method for processing high precision graphics data represented in one or more data formats in one or more passes. Graphics program instructions executed by the system control the processing and format conversion of the data. The program instructions and the data are stored in a memory accessible by the system. Within the memory, contiguous memory entries can contain program instructions or data represented in different formats. The format used to represent a particular data element within the data, is specified in the state information maintained in the system and is used to configure format conversion units within the system. High precision data, such as floating color, is processed by the programmable graphics system and output via a digital to analog converter (DAC) for display.

  • Patent number: 6954659
Abstract: A fashion accessory provides a visual alert for the presence of a mobile communication signal from a nearby but not physically connected communication device. The accessory includes a signaling assembly for providing a visual signal when a mobile communication signal is detected within a defined distance, an antenna connected to the signaling assembly and extending from it, and an elongated member configured for attaching the fashion accessory to a body part or personal article. The signaling assembly may include a circuit module with an LED providing a visible signal when an adjacent mobile communication device is transmitting a signal within the defined distance. The defined distance is selected so as to make the fashion accessory responsive only to signals from a mobile device within a user's personal space.
