  • Publication number: 20040253408
Abstract: The textile includes a plurality of raised ribs laterally spaced one from the other and straddling textile yarns between the raised ribs. A yarn strand of a color different than the color of the raised ribs and straddled fibers extends directly along one side of the raised ribs and a yarn strand of a different color extends along an opposite side of the raised ribs. Depending upon the perspective of the viewer of the textile surface, the color of one of the yarn strands is hidden from view, while the color of the other yarn strand is observable, rendering different optical effects (textile colors) to the viewer as a function of the viewer's perspective.

  • Publication number: 20040253352
Abstract: Antimicrobial salt solutions for food safety and quality applications are disclosed. Because these solutions contain a substantial concentration of salt, they are adaptable to a variety of food-processing applications, such as for chilling brine applications, disinfecting meat baths/rinses, beef injection brines, poultry chill tanks, brines used in cheese manufacture, as a wash to kill salmonella on hard-boiled eggs, and as a wash to disinfect produce, which can become contaminated with salmonella and other pathogenic bacteria in the field. These make use of concentrated salt solutions that depress the freezing point of the solution, to provide a low temperature bath or shower in which food products can be cooled. A preferred formulation contains between 25 ppm and 25,000 ppm surfactant, between 0.1% acid and 25% acid, and between 72.5% and 99.9% salt.

  • Publication number: 20040254435
Abstract: A system for measuring a biopotential signal produced by a body in free space at a location adjacent to the body, and if desired, through clothing, includes a probe that can be positioned adjacent to the body. The probe includes a conductive electrode to receive the biopotential signal and a conductor that is maintained at a fixed distance from the electrode. The potential of the conductor can be maintained substantially equal to the potential of the electrode to shield the electrode from stray electrical noise. The system further includes a high impedance first stage amplifier that is incorporated into the probe and electrically connected to the electrode using a relatively short connector to minimize connector noise. Functionally, the first stage amplifier compares the electrical potential of the electrode to a second potential (e.g. a local ground) and generates a signal that is indicative of the biopotential.
