  • Patent number: 4652476
Abstract: Ablative material is adhered to the surface of an article, such as the combustor of a ramjet, by a folded extensible member attached to the surface. Thus, when an ablative material such as a filled silicone rubber expands during use, the retaining member will extend with it to a void shearing separation, but at the same time will retain it against the surface. In a combustor a rib will run helically along the length of the interior of the combustor. When gases are swirling within the combustor, the pattern of the helix will be opposite to the pattern of the swirl.

  • Patent number: 4590860
Abstract: End burning gas generators for use either as propulsion systems or means for generating large volume of gases for various purposes such as the generation of the fuel for a ducted rocket engine, the rapid inflation of air bags for personal protection or recovery of submersed items or the expulsion of projectiles from subsurface launch tubes are currently widely utilized. End burning gas generator grains are ignited at one end of a generally cylindrical charge mounted within a combustion chamber which is fixed with a suitable exhaust means. For many of the applications described above, it is desirable that the gas generator burn in a uniform manner such that a constant volume of gas is generated per unit of time so that the chamber pressure and the mass flow rate of gas remain constant.

  • Patent number: 4448742
Abstract: A method and apparatus for spin casting a castable material into a cylindrical body. The method comprises the steps of rotating an elongated cylindrical body about its longitudinal axis, applying an extrudable uncured material as a continuous stream in helical fashion from one point in the body to another point, continuing to rotate the body until the material is leveled and at least partially curing the material while continuing to rotate the body. The apparatus comprises means for holding and spinning an elongated cylindrical body, and extruder means for providing a continuous stream of an extrudable uncured material in a desired fashion along the inside of the cylindrical body.

  • Patent number: 4214875
Abstract: Coal pile coating compositions comprising a wax or wax and organic polymer binder and a major proportion of solid particulate organic filler. A process for coating the exposed surface(s) of coal piles with coating compositions comprising an organic binder comprising wax, pitch, asphalt, or tar or said materials including an organic polymer dispersed therein, plus a major proportion of a particulate organic filler. The coated coal piles produced thereby.
